Comic Strip: Lilith is Given the Boot
This was for my English 101 class, and I thought that you all might be interested in seeing what I did. I have one other comic that I am going to post a little later on... and I am strongly considering making this an ongoing comic strip. Let me know if you would be interested in seeing more. :3
Here is the commentary I wrote to go along with this:
Most people are familiar with the incarnation of Lilith that used to be in the Bible. Lilith was originally included in the Book of Genesis since it was based off a Sumerian/Babylonian creation story which had her created from the earth along with Adam. That portion of the creation story was removed in a later revision. There are several that argue it became excluded because the tale was no longer considered relevant.
I would personally like to think if Lilith were to hear about such a “big change” to the “records”, she would be a bit irked. I thought it would be amusing and more contemporary to make the tale be about the records of a club called the “Eden Gardening Club”.

I imagine she was removed less for not being relevant but more to fit the male dominant perspective since Lilith and Adam were created as equals and wouldn't be forced into the subservient position so she was removed and a more compliant female Eve introduced. Plus it allowed blaming the hole 'fall from grace' on women as if Adam has no choice in things when he had the same choice she had.
Actually some scholars wrote that the fall is rather Adam's fault because he made the conscious decision to accept Eve's temptation though he knew her judgment was compromised from eating the fruit. I very much agree Lilith's story was likely removed in favor of Eve's for Eve's more submissive nature and to more strongly prove the 'weaker' nature of women to be more easily swayed by temptation than men. Adam was meant as Eve's guide and having Lilith in as a more independent feminine figure would be too great a contrast to the more submissive, dependent figure Eve was painted as. Mixed massages aren't good when trying to sway general opinion of masses. So best to make things simple. XD Least that's what I think. XD Everyone has different thoughts on the matter. ^^
Poor Lilith...
But I LOVE these characters! They gave me quite a laugh and I'd love to see more of em! The humor is thought provoking and I love the modern spin. Inspires me. If you ever need help I'd be willing to do so with this comic. ^^

But in the end the tale of Adam and Eve has been used to justify all sorts of anti-female behavior and write them off as the 'weaker' sex for giving in to temptation as if somehow Adam didn't when he actually did. Both had clean slates and both were tempted and both gave in, who gave in first or who tempted who is quite irrelevant.
The characters are quite nice and it was a nice story, always can use more humor that also provokes thought at the same time.

That too. I was just puttin' in meh two sense. : D That's what I meant by sayin' Eve was the weaker of the two because she was tempted first. Adam failed because he did not guide her properly as he should have. In the end I kinda put it to both of them being at fault but seeing as Eve was successfully tempted first justifies men ruling over women though... this story kinda shows they fail at that anyway. XD When I was studying this story in college it was just an interesting outlook we were given that the true fall was due to Adam. Some theories state had Adam not been tempted by Eve and had corrected her behavior mankind may have been redeemed. I follow with the thought that it was an equal blame. Just puttin out some other theories for the hell of it. : D
