(Sketchbook Entry #5) The digger
(Entry #5)
So far this trip has been something. Seeing the strange and weird animals and other creatures around. I also sometimes get in touch with others who are also exploring the world and such and sometimes talk about what we've seen.
Recently, I came in contact with someone working on a study of a unique animal that they had come across. They had told me that at first, they thought it was your typical 3 banded armadillo but upon closer inspection found out that wasn't the case. In fact, it was something else. They then went on to take photos of it and went their own way. But later that day, came across another one but didn't seem to move. Thinking that maybe it was dead, they would get close and try to check for any signs of life. After feeling a faint heartbeat, it was then they decided to take the risk and bring it back to their research station.
Even though I wouldn't want to mess with another creature like that. I being to wonder how it was doing, so I asked them. They soon took me over to a small area that was outside and fenced up in a way that look like nothing could get in or out. They would tell me that it was doing fine and removing well. It should be able to return back where it was found in a few weeks. Until then they would continue to study it. Trying to look for it. I soon came across the strange animal and they were right. While it did have a shell-like armadillo. Its body was like one but more dog-like.
It would have a little longer body, a canine-like muzzle, and even the tail was fluffy with a slight curl to it. The tail also had what looked like armor on it as well. The little animal didn't seem to notice me and instead was more interested in digging a hole in the sand. So taking out my sketchbook, I would quickly get it down before the researcher came back. We continued to talk about it while not sure where the animal actually came from. It did seem like a mix of two animals alright. That being an armadillo, as mentioned before, and a dog. Which they said reminded them of a corgi due to its body shape. They did notice it like digging randomly and have been seen playing with dog toys. It would sometimes even act like one as well. And so for now. They simply gave it the nickname of "Digger"
*-*-*-*-*-*
(Conclusion):
After leaving the station. I asked if I could see it again before they release it back into the wilds. And they would agree on seeing it one more time. And maybe by then, they might have a little more info about it as well.
