Once studios understood that there was a risk of any ink being powerful enough to create toons or transform others into toons, there was panic amongst the studios and populace.
It wasn't until later after a year long embargo, it was determined that it was a specific person 'Dozers' - So named for their imagination would become reality given effort and ability to produce it, were the root cause of what created toons from drawings and paintings.
Toons themselves were able to change others through their ink, but it wasn't until the loss of the Dozer Marvin Calleb - Animator at Jumpin' Jive Studios in 1942 that it was understood that dozers could in fact be toonified themselves.
Marvin had a nasty run in with a rushing intern. A collision caused ink, drawings and Marvin to ingest his own imagination.
Jumpin' Jive Studios eventually was bankrupted because of the loss of their single dozer on staff, unable to produce the same quality cartoons as other studios at the time. Due to wartime budgeting however, the US government stepped in with a lifeline that kept the studio going through the end of the war. The staff managed to stay on producing many of the propaganda posters for war time efforts. The combination of the loss of a beloved animator and the closeness with which Jumpin' Jive worked to the aid of propaganda, found many members eventually post war turning towards becoming members of a fledgling group espousing the disgust of Pinnacle Peaks (The studio's local toontown) and toons in general.
Yes, with the loss of Marvin Calleb, his toonification was seen as one of many stepping stones into a much more angry front against toons in general. Those that walked away from Jumpin' Jive studios, walked right into the notable arms of HATE. (Humans against Toon Encouragement)
Marvin Calleb of course was covered in art supplies and his own character designs, becoming something of an anomaly. He became a cartoonized version of himself. A fully tooned human, eventually utilized to produce in house animation cartoons and help negotiate between the few marquees (popular toons) within Jumpin' Jives archives and staff, he found himself unpopular with audiences however.
Almost no one cared about the funny animator trying his best to make things to make others laugh, it seems the larger punchline was that despite Marvin's ability to conjure his imagination to will prior to becoming a cartoon, he had in fact somehow lost this ability once changed. He could no longer create things as he did. He had become a punch line, but wasn't sure who would be laughing at this.
Though he's well liked by the toon community at large, known as one of the 'Old Men', a designation of creators that had designed some of the most popular toons for their studios, dozer or not, he at least was able to serve as a bridge in relations between Pinnacle Peaks and the real world.
Decades later, he's still seen milling about in the background of some toons, often used as a sight gag passed between animation studios to hide him in plain sight, and in a sadder sense, one of the last remaining ways to garner the attention a toon could hope for, as Marvin, beloved as he was, was just never all that funny on his own.
Still his small crowd cameos and his pension pay well enough, though he's often seen at The Inkwell, drinking a combination of ink and beer, which unlike most toons, tastes funny to him, and he likes that just fine.
