Fun fact: there are several species of tusked or "fanged" deer-like species which include species of muntjac and water deer, both of which belong to the cervidae family, as well as the tufted deer or musk deer which is made up of seven species that actually fall into the family called the moschidae and is the only surviving extant genus. They are also more closely related to bovidae than cervidae.
Dorian is based on all three of these examples. I chose to designate him as a muntjac because his coat colour most closely resembles the Reeves's muntajac as well as his horns. In reality, he's more like a fictional mashup of all of them :)

How so? Dorian isn't profiled for his species alone, he's simply an somewhat less common species. However besides the fangs he's still a deer who is rather lithe and and has even a somewhat delicate apparence. He is a long time resident of Blackwater, has a good reputation with the town's university as well as with many of the locals. On top of him being careful and calculating, no one has any reason to suspect him of anything sinister, especially based on based on looks alone.
As for how the the investigation itself will go, that will of course be told in the story
