"You ever heard the phrase 'it was beauty that killed the beast'? It was fame that killed my son."
KONNOR KINGSTON, LEADER OF THE EIGHT WONDERS
A world champion boxer, Konnor had the world at his feet until a tragic death destroyed his family. After disappearing to Japan, he found an underground ring of lawless fiends that he beat down to submission, and formed his own circuit that champions skill and entertainment, over cruelty and death.
Why yes, I loved drawing this piece quite a lot. Of the latest batch of (lets be frank) wonderful kaiju movies we've had from Legendary and WB, my personal favorite is the simply titled "Kong: Skull Island", which surprises me to say since I'm not the biggest fan of King Kong. I never really cared for any of the movies that featured him, I always found him kind of boring and sort of "eh". The closest I got to caring for the character was in the Peter Jackson version, and that was almost out of exhaustion.
But "Kong: Skull Island" did it so effortlessly that I didn't even notice. He's just great. He's a badass, he has presence, his motivations are clear (protect island, save good people, eat giant octopus). He's an engaging character I wanted to see more of, which isn't something I can't say about the other versions.
So I had a ball of a time drawing this one, absolutely.
Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate every single one I receive.
