Wow... It has been over a month since I bought this. I developed symptoms of Coronavirus the day I bought this adopt and was not in the mood to do anything with it for a while and then it just kept being put on the backburner.
Amari is intended as more of a character rather than a Fursona. I have been working on and off on a proper Fursona for a while but I keep being incredibly indecisive with it. In the meantime, Amari is intended as something of a placeholder but considering I am almost certainly going for a Dragon, I was in the market for a more "mundane" alternative character based on an animal that definitely exists. I was hoping to pick an animal native to the UK where I am actually from in order to be as unexotic as possible but as our wildlife is kind of boring I was seriously considering a Pidgeon. Shark was also an option I debated for a while. I just knew that whatever I went for, I wanted to avoid going for an animal that was too common (no wolves or foxes) or had a colour scheme too off base.
Anyway, I was in the market for a character for ages but not seriously looking for one and one day this just jumped out at me. I did Tang Soo Do for a while, have long legs and fantasies of flying so I guess I just have an affinity for a bird that hunts by kicking things and fell in love with the design. To be fair, that day was also the day where I imported a very expensive plush from Japan so I guess frivolous spending may just be a badly documented Coronavirus symptom. Either way this is not the start of me trying to amass a collection of a million adopts.
I am not opposed to the idea of the character appearing in adult artwork but it probably will not be "canon". Focusing on the Secretary Bird's kicking ability, I imagine the character to exist in the world of a martial arts manga and I would prioritise commissioning/ making art of them dressed for the part first. Some of the likes and dislikes are shared with me but its mostly to imply scenes id like to see them in. I mostly wanted to avoid saying something generic like "dislikes annoying people" or "likes GIANT HORSE PP".
It felt appropriate to try and give an African bird an African name rather than just calling them Dave or mashing some adjectives together. Amari means Strength while Bayu means wind.
