I'm getting 3 credits to design the cover and pages for the school's literary magazine. The inside is going to be a flip-book of a bird flying across the pages, dropping a seed down to the page number spot, and then that seed growing for the rest of the book.
For the cover, this was my sketch. I had intended on doing a successional forest theme before changing the flip-book into the bird thing (before it was going to just start with dirt on the bottom and then a forest growing-but I thought that would be too complex for this)... So that's what this cover's theme is.
NOW that I'm actually sitting down to paint the thing, though, I'm considering changing it. This issue will come out in January, which around here means a lot of snow. So, should I forgo the successional forest theme and instead do a winter scene? or how about a spring theme?
OH some notes: the book is going to be printed on brown textured paper, so I was hoping to incorperate those colors as much as possible into the design, which is the only reason I'm hesitant to do a winter scene (snow isn't brown, usually). Also I'm thinking of oil paint as the medium, since digital was voted to look too smooth by the Lit Mag. editors.
