Mother and daughter reunited after years apart. Those of you who read Oseille, when I still had it posted here, will remember these two. For those of you who missed the book, I'll post the description I sent to Luthien when I commissioned her:
"Deirdre never wanted to be a mother, but she loved her daughter, and raised her as best she could. But she was terrified of things she didn't understand and as Ciara grew older, Deirdre began to take refuge in her duties as General of the Cearnach army more often.
The day Ciara turned twelve, everything changed. Cearnach lost the war, and an enemy army was on the march only a few miles away from the city itself. Fearing a prolonged siege, Deirdre put Ciara on the fastest horse in the kingdom and sent her away at a gallop. Ciara set out with instructions to settle in a neutral village in the middle of the island, and to wait until Deirdre came to get her.
Nine years later, Ciara was settled comfortably in her new home and she would have been happy enough for this life she had built to last the rest of her days. But late that last summer, war came again. War parties clashed outside the gates, and the first person to be injured in the war was Ciara, whose shoulder was laid open by a glancing arrow as she rode out to stop them. Deirdre, now a mercenary soldier, and the leader of one of the war parties, left the fighting to rescue her daughter and take Ciara to safety. Ciara is furious with her mother for abandoning her, and for leading soldiers to her front door. But anger soon turns to forgiveness and tears of relief as they embrace, Deirdre reassuring her daughter that she really is back."
I've wanted to commission someone to draw Deirdre for a long time now, and I thought this scene was the perfect introduction for her. She's got a lot of problems, but she's got a good heart underneath it all. Not surprisingly, Luthien did a wonderful job with this, and especially with capturing the emotions between them.

Oh, she really did. She always does an incredible job with all of her work, and I was very pleased with this piece. It's amazing how much life and emotion she was able to give my characters from such a short, condensed version of their history. And I'm particularly pleased with what she did with Deirdre, the tall, paler vixen with the scar on her nose. This is the first time anyone has ever drawn her, but she's maybe one of my best characters, and certainly one of my very favorites. I'm so glad you like them, too!
Aww, well I'm glad you think so. I thought it was high time I started showing my girls the way they really are, and Ciara hasn't had a chance to let her real personality shine quite the same way that Niamh has until now. Besides, I've always wanted to get a picture done of Ciara with her mother. I knew Luthien would do a good job with this, but when I saw this piece I just fell in love with my own characters all over again. If that doesn't sound like too strange a thing to say! And yeah, I absolutely love the way Luthien drew Deirdre. I've always had it in my mind that she's still a very beautiful vixen, in spite of her scars, and I think that Luthien captured that so very well. You can certainly expect to see more of her in the future, too!
Thanks so much for all the comments. I don't know why it didn't show up in the new submissions, though! FA has been acting kind of strange lately, and every once in a while the page won't load when I click on a new picture, or try to visit a new gallery. So maybe there are some bugs in the programming somewhere. Still, I'm glad you got to see it in the end.

I'm glad you think so. I kind of went back and forth on how to handle her scars, and in the end I decided to go fairly light on the visible ones. There are a few more that are covered by her clothes here, like on her left arm and a couple on her torso. So if I ever get her drawn so those are showing, I hope they won't change your opinion! But I think I've hit about the right balance so that she looks like she has actually seen combat, but where she's still the beauty she was in her youth. And thanks!
I love the celtics culture, may be because I descend of them, anyway I love the architecture, the symbols, the legends, the clothes in special the cloaks ^^
About the draw, is awesome, This remember me when I receive a hug from a close person, the artsist have captured very well the feelings.

Oh me, too. I've always been fascinated by the Celts, and especially by the Irish. Both of these characters, but especially Deirdre (the taller one), are both based on a lot of Irish myth and history. I love the emotions in this one, too. Luthien always manages to capture the emotions in her art so very well, and she did a wonderful job with these two.
My ancestors are Irish, for this reason my mother give me the name Patrick, it was for St. Patrick, and the Irish people historically always helped the Argentina, for example William Brown worked to kick out the english people, in the english invassions of 1806 and 1807 ^^.
I love the character Deirdre, I dont know but she causes on my soul a feeling of peace ^^.

I'm afraid not. I used to have it up on FA until about a year ago, but I took it down because I still have this little pipe dream of getting it published. Most people aren't too keen to read a full-length novel on-line, either. But thanks. This is one of my favorite commissions.
