This week's Tuesday Portrait Cutepost features another forgotten/unused character, Rosario, a gangster I drew a couple times in 2016/2017 and considered having be Amika's boyfriend.

Fur Affinity ◈ Weasyl After mentioning him for the first time in years in the description of a recent drawing of the equally neglected Amika, I decided I should at least do an updated portrait of him and maybe try to develop him a bit.
However, this does lead to a bit of an issue--I'm not 100% sure Amika is compatible with an actual thug or gangster. I don't recall but I think my original ideas for Rosario involved him being on the fence about actual serious criminal activity, being a young guy and petty criminal from a rough neighborhood that fell in with a rough crowd, so maybe Amika can be part of his redemption arc.
I also do have art of him behind bars from 2017, so maybe once he gets out he tries to straighten his life out and turn things around, and that's when he meets Amika.Posted using PostyBirb

I do recall thinking he'd be an interesting rival of sorts for my equally underutilized hyena cop, Jacinto Cruz. Rosario's activities seem like they'd be pretty non-violent but still definitely not harmless--dealing drugs, stealing cars, stuff of that nature. The sort of things that if I decided to put him in front of a merciful judge, could probably just get him a few years in prison and a possibility for parole so he could get out while he's still young. Upon release, he'd definitely have a hard time turning things around and the temptation to go back to his old ways would be there, so I'd have to give him something more to keep him motivated.
Admittedly, this development is fairly recent, and very loosely based on a coworker I had who actually went through something very similar.
As for how Amika fits in, perhaps she sorta knew Rosario back in high school and bumped into him again at random after he got out? Previously, I had considered she might know him from when she went out clubbing, but I'm not sure such a timeline could really work now. Either way, I can definitely see Amika being attracted to the "bad boy" sort, but I can't see her being willing to put up with someone that's actually dangerous or involved with criminal activity--she may be blonde but she's not stupid.
As for what he'd be doing now that he's out? Probably working in a fast-food place or something at first, but I can definitely see his interest in cars (and knowledge in breaking into and stealing them) being a potential start for a career as a mechanic or tow truck operator or repo man or something--maybe he helps Amika with some sort of car trouble or getting her keys out of the car if she's locked them inside, and she puts the idea in his head that he should actually look into putting those skills to use.
Thanks for encouraging me to comment further on this, it gave me an excuse to do some "stream of consciousness" type commenting and possibly solidify his character a bit more.

Thanks! What I've come up with is, he probably got busted for stealing a car. In the reply above, I sorta rambled about my thoughts about his characterization and development a bit, and how his knowledge of cars and how to break into and steal them might actually be helpful in him starting a career as a mechanic, repo man, tow truck operator, or similar work where those skills could be put to use legally.
