Having lived in Louisiana and Florida, I've had the opposite experience. I've seen many people get crazy excited about a log in the water. OMIGASH ITS A GATOR...

Ah yes, that's the other possible reaction. "Quick honey that stick floating there must be a gator, get a picture!" In this case, though, people were standing basically right next to the darn thing and not even noticing it.
