Decided to get back into writing generic fight stories now, however this time I'll be trying to write MMA, a tricky one as the exact movements during the ground game isn't something I'm used to describing. Instead I use general concepts with gaining and losing ground/control.
You could see this as more of a test and a returning to writing. Thinking about writing more of these in the mean time while I try to make the world of Estral as great as it can be.

Hi
I enjoyed reading this - while I'm more into reading fight stories than fantasy (despite being a Tolkien fan) I thought you integrated the actual fight into the dragon/fantasy background well, with enough 'cultural' references (eg. Creator / Destroyer etc) to make it fresh.
And the fight being a kind of novice initiation is also another well integrated angle - including the fact that both fighters are focused on enjoying the fight in clean competition, and ending in a friendly re-challenge...
I'd also like to suggest one change, just in emphasis. You rightly say that the fighters need to be careful to avoid serious harm; what I suggest is that you take advantage of the 'dragon fantasy' background in that being 'scaly', they can actually take a lot of punishment (compared to a human) and that has minimal effect/ no long term harm - just a suggestion within the 'fantasy' to allow the fighting to be a little more powerful.
A good story in any case.

Thanks for you comments, as always!
While it is true that dragons are more resilient than humans due to their scales, it only applies to sharp impacts that attempt to cut through the skin. Scales don't really do much against blunt impacts, the serious injury with these sports are concussions, which happens when the brain gets rattled in the skull.
That said dragons do heal much quicker. Nohrains and Prinsannias, some of the most vulnerable in this aspect tend take a few months off fighting if they suffered a major injury, which is much shorter than a year for humans.
