just a silly doodle of me flipping out over a greyhound :P i did it after i came home from the lady-doctor to cheer myself up, and it worked!
super sloppy coloring job, fast sketch, completely silly, but I like it because this is TOTALLY ME. No, seriously, it really is. that is me every time i see a dog in public.
I've never had a dog but I've always always always desperately wanted one for as long as I can remember. One of the very first books I read was "Where the Red Fern Grows." I read it in kindergarten and it took me like three months to read the whole thing.
As soon as I move out of the house, I plan to adopt an older dog--probably a retired racing greyhound. (we can do lure coursing and CGC! <3)
Greyhounds are one of the few types of dogs that don't scare me at all. The others are all sighthounds and "giant" breeds. Medium-sized dogs, particularly labs and golden retrievers (sucks for me 'cause they're so popular!) and most other sporting and non-giant working breeds, scare me the most.
Little dogs aren't scary because they're just silly, even though they're so barky. My best friend has a little dog (Chinese Crested powderpuff) that is absolutely adorable and totally sweet. I got to babysit her over Christmas...it was so awesome.
Yeah, I'm afraid of dogs, it's a supremely delicious irony.
I'm fine when I meet dogs in public, especially in places like PetsMart. That's my favorite place to meet dogs. If the owner/handler/shelter rep/whoever says they're friendly, I pet them and hug them and love on them for as long as I possibly can. I only get upset when I go over to a house and it's that dog's territory. That's when I get afraid because that's when they bark at me a lot, and I'm easily frightened by loud, sudden noises. I usually cry out of fear, and it's terrible and embarassing.
I don't like fireworks either, but I don't cry out of fear from fireworks. I just go into a building and then I'm fine. As long as the building isn't full of barking dogs. That would be my own personal hell.
Most greyhounds don't bark, like, ever.
This was an unintentionally really long description. lollers.

Heh heh, yeah. Every retired greyhound that I've met has been sweet, gentle, and affectionate. I love sighthounds and I'm not even a little afraid of them. :D Nor am I a big fan of small dogs--they just don't look like DOGS to me. (I love my friend's dog, but I think of her more as a fluffy critter than as an actual dog.)
But I'd want to take him to the dog park, so I'd probably get a greyhound that is known to be at least decent around other dogs, though I wouldn't expect one who loves cats or critters--it's too much in their blood, and that's one of the things I love about all sighthounds.

The more that I read about greyhounds, the more I like them. I'm a cattle rancher in central Nevada; I think that my ranches would be paradise for a retired greyhound. Just think of it: thousands of desert acres, thousands of jackrabbits, and no cars to run over a vehicle naive dog.
But first, I have to find a rancher who has adopted one to answer the big question: will they chase calves? If their instincts are to chase only animals smaller than themselves - go for it (after gettting a tularemia - rabbit fever - immunization shot). Would a greyhound chase an animal as large as itself?
