In the life of a detective, one often finds themselves intersecting with the wealthy and powerful, and there's no better place for that than at a lavish, ostentatious party. Nothing looses lips like a chance to brag about business successes, acquisitions, and the like. Well, almost nothing...
If one knows the right people and pays the right price, their homes can be fortified by magical and technological innovations that stifle practitioners of the arcane, like our favorite mind mage. Such comes as no surprise to Enigma, as he himself teaches courses on how to neutralize and negate magic. And yet, even without his prestigious powers, he is far from disarmed.
One is a fool for putting their eggs in one basket, and one is equally a fool for relying solely on magic to achieve their ends. Thanks to the peerless alchemists at the Magistrum, Enigma has access to power poisons that can be applied to shape the ballroom as he sees fit. From the emetic poison that leaves guards and guardsmen expelling the contents of their stomach, to the truth serum to cloud the mind and reduce inhibitions, and even an old-fashioned sleeping concoction, all of them have their uses depending on the situation. Tasteless... traceless...
Honestly, why would you expect a mind mage to play fair, even and especially in an environment where spellcasting isn't an option?
Thanks to
LittleBadWolf for their amazing how here. I'm always happy with their attention to detail.
