Since several of my projects require a logo, it's time to work one out.

Hmm... it looks like something I'd see from a pharmaceutical company. The lines remind me of bonding pairs.
Why the angular attack on the first go through? Circles and roundedness are certainly a lot more relaxing, and generally have a higher and broader base of aesthetic value. Though, I suppose fitting a spiral into a hexagon is something I've not seen tried before...
Personally, for a mind control slave outfit, I'd imagine they'd want something that would be easy to brand onto stock. Kinda like a Ferrari logo or accoutrement for your car. Towards that end, you'd essentially need 3 "characters" (term used loosely) that could be easily combined. I wonder if you could make a font where the "Q" and "P" would naturally look like eyes that you could then add a simple 4 quadrent, 2 tone spiral...

I was going for a pharmaceutical company feel, to be honest. QuikPik's mindcontrol/brain rewriting technology is what sets them appart from the other underground slave rings, and have rebranded themselves to embrace a more scientific/medical feel.
I misstermed stuff too. This should be the letter head. What goes at the top of official company documents and whatnot. There's also an icon logo, interlocking Q and P that I'm still working out that'd be used like the Mac Apple or the Sun S thing.

Hmm, Well overall it’s pretty good, but personally there are a few things I would do differently.
1. If at all possible seeing as the graphic to the left of the Q is about the same as the Q I would see if I could combine the two together into one graphic.
2. I find the P to be very distracting in relation to the rest of the font. I think it’s because when I look at it I want the P’s crossbar/waist to be at the same x-height as the rest of the font. Either that or it’s because the baseline of the rest of the font is at a different height. I’m not sure.
Hope this was of some help to you, I know you don't have much experience with logos, as you said, I am just used to critiquing like I'm in class. If you need any clarification just ask.

Visual Communications student, too? Cool.
Anyway back to the logo. I tried combining the P and Q together and it took quite a bit of tweaking to get it to look right. The problem was that the bigger the Q and P were the less balanced the two looked when they were interlocked. If you're going to want a scalable image, I believe you'd probably have to drop that idea. Besides, the logo as it is has a certain elegance to it. It just needs some attention to details. The main problem I have with it is that the smaller letters baseline does not match that of the Q and P (i.e. the bottoms of all should match). I would suggest nudging them down so the bottom points are all level. Also, if you want it all to be one word you should move the P closer to the K just before it. However, if you want it to be two seperate words I would suggest increasing the space between the P and K. You may also wish to work on the logomark some more as well and make it reflect the ideal you are going for. That's you're personal choice. I hope these ideas will help you in the pursuit.

The letters are all supposed to be aligned through the midpoint/center corners. The P just throws things off because of it's long line. Will do some tweaking to see if I can make it work better. I have a few ideas. Thanks for the feedback, it's very useful to a logo designing newb like me.
I'm usually very quiet and just kindof lurk and watch. However, I know a thing about logo design.
The font is very distinctive and is a good choice. The Hexagon isn't so much. I like something out in front of the text as the text by itself is dull. However, you need to think "This is going to be scaled up, scaled down, put in black and white, put in color, drawn out in just lines..." and it needs to be some what distinct and yet recognizable. The spiral pattern in the hexagon seems too subtle for that.
That would be my only criticism of this as a logo.
