Sketches - Group Picture 01
Well, this is another old sketch. The characters in Hybrid live in a place they simply call, the Den. It's a series of underground caverns and dens that they call home. Also within this home space is a body of water where they bathe and relax and play. The latter is what's going on in this shot.
Now, there are two characters missing from this scene, namely Bear and Cougar. The reason for that is simple. At this point in the developmental stage, Cougar was supposed to be dead and Bear had left the group to avenge his death. But, after more development and planning, I realized that the group was just too small and somehow less than whole without the added presence of the two. So, Cougar is no longer dead and Bear is no longer filled with murderous rage
...ah...but, I arrived at this conclusion AFTER this sketch was done so...no Bear and Cougar at the bath this time around ^^;
Oh, also, I'm not slapping a mature label on this because, even though they're all bathing, they're all covered. There are no...umm...bits showing. Well, you get a mild booty shot...kinda sorta...but, it's nothing you wouldn't see in a general magazine...or at the beach ^^;

LOL! Yeah, no dead Cougar. Had to bring him back because the story needed him. And now...he's one of my favorites. He's kind of quirky and like someone's big brother
As for the den, I'd have to scan the sketches I had done of the den so you could see it. It's almost like a mini maze

Ooooh, what a nice scene! The women bathing, the children playing, the boys having just caught a fish, and snow leopardess, despite her best efforts, only caught Lioness' tail. (Also, do all the kids like to play with Lioness' tail? ) and the men standing watch, (at least one of them) yet still enjoying the happy scene of their loved ones before them.
Think you might finish it sometimes? (even though it will be a almost gruesome lot of work though, with background and all.)
also, i just noticed this submission, after i commented on your journal about pinups. ;) but this (or at how you drew the women here) is pretty close to what i meant. You can also let the woman's privates be below the water, and let the water distort the image (for instance with the warp tool in PS) and perhaps draw some reflections on the water from the sun, and make her privates indistinguishable that way.

Lioness has an extra tufted tail. It's like a cat toy that Raccoon, Snow and a bunch of the others just like batting around ...as long as she'll let them
As for finishing this, a few people have suggested the same thing, so it may be something that I'll attempt to tackle in between working on the comics or, if I have time, after the comics are done. It'll be a big endeavor, but, a lot of people seem to like this one, so it may be worth it to restore and complete this piece

I see. Whenever I want to scan something on 11x17, i just scan both halves separately, and stick them together in photoshop. If you make a smooth transition (e.g. by using a layer for each half and a mask for the top one) you can make the transition nearly invisible. You do need a small area to overlap, but i believe most scanners are slightly wider then the 8x11 inch paper, (or my scanner at least) so that isn't a problem.
Bit too much work if you do it every day, but for an occasional scan it is doable.
