This is a scene from an imaginary episode I came up with, where a rival fox, Flint, moves in to Camden town.
Flint sees Fergus trying to get food out of a bin, when the bin topples over on top of Fergus. Flint mocks Fergus, saying he’s not a real fox - a true fox would be agile enough to avoid that. Fergus challenges Flint, saying he’s a better fox than Flint will ever be.
They agree to a series of 3 challenges in front of the Canal Crew, to see who’s the real fox and who’s just faking.
The first challenge is to steal a whole lunchbox from a human. Flint easily manages to snatch a lunchbox without the human even noticing. Fergus tries the same thing, but he makes too much noise, and the human starts shouting and chasing him. As Fergus runs away, the lunchbox falls open and he only manages to take a single apple.
The second challenge is to break into a house without damaging anything, and steal something shiny. Flint uses a ladder and a sharp stick to pick the lock on a house, and the door quietly swings open. He silently runs into the house, and comes back out carrying a mobile phone, not leaving a scratch on the house. Fergus tries to do the same, but as he’s trying to pick the lock, the ladder collapses under him, and breaks clean through the door, setting off an alarm and forcing Flint, Fergus and his friends to make a run for it.
The final challenge is to jump across as many rooftops as possible. Flint effortlessly leaps across several houses, going all the way around the block and back again. Fergus makes the first jump, barely makes the second, then trips and falls before he can even attempt the third. His friends rush to his aid.
Flint mocks Fergus for failing at every challenge, then walks off pridefully. For the first time in the episode, Fergus’ confidence is truly shaken, and he admits to the Canal Crew that maybe he isn’t a real fox after all, maybe he’s only good at telling tall tales. They try to reassure him, but it doesn’t work.
They don’t have long to contemplate this, however, as they hear Flint crying out for help in the distance. They race to help him, and find that he’s fallen into the canal and broken his leg, and he can’t swim out. A boat is coming far off in the distance and it will run him over if they don’t get him out.
Fergus and the Canal Crew get to work. They bang on a bin with some sticks, making a huge racket that distracts a nearby human. Fergus steals the human’s hand bag while they’re distracted, and he uses it like a lifebuoy, throwing it into the river so Flint can hold onto it, and using it to pull him to shore.
Even now that he’s next to the shore, Flint can’t manage to climb up the slippery canal edge with his broken leg. The boat is getting closer. Fergus notices a crack in the concrete, lining the canal. He grabs a ladder from a nearby construction site, and uses it to smash part of the concrete, creating a rough edge for Flint to climb on.
Flint starts climbing, and Fergus offers a paw to help him, but he’s not climbing fast enough. They’re both about to get run over by the boat! Just as the boat is about to hit them, Fergus loses his footing and drops Flint, and Flint falls harmlessly into the gap between the boat and the canal wall, saving Flint’s life.
As the boat leaves, Fergus offers a paw and helps Flint finally make it out of the canal. Flint, soaking wet, apologises to Fergus, admitting that there’s more than one way to be a fox after all. Fergus brags that he never doubted himself once, and he knew that all along, and the Canal Crew are relieved that Fergus is back to his old self.
…See! I can have ideas that don’t involve Summer xD Sometimes xD
