Well I sketched this up after looking at some of ScarclyHuman's pics. Really liked em and so having my own SciFi flare I made a species up. So once more I'll do a bit of a species Profile and then profile on the two characters here.
The Nakara and the Naita are the two dominant species on Novara. The Nakara are the larger and more intelligent of the two. Averaging between 12 to 14 feet tall the Nakara are a large species. The Naita however are on the other end of the spectrum. Averaging in height from 5 to 6 feet tall. Generally the Naita are only as intelligent as a four year old child. They are classified as a semi sapient species. Originally the Naita were the dominant species on the planet and the Nakara were the unintelligent species used often as a labor force. However due to the release of a genetic virus into the environment the two species have effectively switched place. As the Naita gradually lost their intelligence the Nakara gained it. The transition was smooth with only minor bumps.
The Nakara now keep Naita as pets. Being a long lived species having large amounts of time between breeding cycles the Naita fulfil a parental need. They make good playmates for children and as the child grows they learn essential caretakeing skills by caring for their Naita. Givent he Naita's sze and difficulty using most Nakara restroom facilities it is common practice for them to be diapered by their owners.
On a side note the export of Naita to non Nakara controlled space is highly illegal. The Nakara afford the Naita all rights any of their own species would have where applicable. Killing Naita is seen just as much an act of murder as killing a Nakara. One reason why Naita are not exported beyond their home space to prevent unscrupulous species from procuring them to be used as a slave labor force.
Subject Profile.
Deki and his Naita Ikasu allowed us to accompany them ona walk through their countryside town. Being the size of a Naita ourselves we couldn't help but feel dwarfed by the immense scenery around us. Deki was very polite for his age and showed us around and answered our question about Naita pet habits.
"Well the collar's for their safey. That way even if they do wonder off or get lost we can still find them and bring them back home. A lot of young kids have the same type of thing in say a back pack or arm band computer." Deki informed us.
"So Deki what are your duties with Ikasu here?" I asked him.
"I make sure he gets his exercise which usually means just playing and having fun together, I get him his meals, He's Ok at feeding himself but I tend usually need to clean a little bit up. Then there's changing his diapers of course. I've gotten used to it though considering I've always been around Ikasu. Course there's also dressing him. When it's warm out like today that just means a diaper and his collar but He's to a bunch of outfits too for various weather." Deki told us smiling while Ikasu looked over the side of the bridge barely tall enough to do so.
"Where does he sleep?" I asked.
"Oh he sleeps in my room. He's got his own lil hanging bed by the window but sometimes when he has a bad dream or when there's a storm he'll bunk with me." Deki nodded as Ikasu hopped down and point to a bird flying by.
"Look! Dat's a Keeka Bird!" Ikasu said proudly as he pointed it out.
"Yes it is. Just like the ones in that nest in the tree outside our room."
"Uh huh!" Ikasu nodded enthusiastically
All and all we had a wonderful day with these two despite the strangeness. Being the size of a Naita we were sometimes mistaken for one at a distance through out the day and seeing someone that to our eyes seems like a competent adult talking like that and wearing a diaper it was certainly odd. But the universe if full of odd but wonderful things they say.

Yes they do though generally as with humans it's something for early childhood and usually only continues if someone has a medical need for them. But there are some who wear out of desire too. It's generally upon in their culture as just a "Meh, Well that's diffrent. Wonder what's for supper." Not really a huge deal overall.
