Played around with the SAI brushes and layer modes in this step.

I learned a new lesson in rendering today: when doing light&shade work, it's best to turn off all color layering, and just work with the lines and a grayish color background.

Also, with all the coloring disabled, the whole scene has a statue-like feel to it ;)
