
I happened across this creepy fellow while walking home. No idea what kind of spider it is. I know very little about spiders besides the fact that they creep me out! The body itself is bigger than say... a quarter. Hard to figure out what to compare it to, size-wise.

So anyway...I think I've narrowed this little slice of Satan's own nutsack.
You live in Florida, correct? Then it's either a wolf spider or a funnel weaver spider. I think it's the second, though I've not been able to find a photo with a thorax as large as your example. Perhaps she needs to lay off the deep fried flies.

I can't believe I'm still looking for what sort of spider this monstrosity is, but...
I'm leaning towards some species of a tropical Orbweaver. specifically, the Redfemured Spotted Orbweaver. I did some digging in the Floridanature.org website, and that's the closest I could find. The coloring of your specimen (heh heh, specimen) seems a bit off, but that could just be the lighting. Here's a link to a photo of this hairy little bastich:
