It's Derp and Mini-Derp... so cute together. Rocky's behaving quite well, despite only being 4.5 months old and only being in the household for 2days. ^_^

Well, he's super loyal and a great companion (as expected from a GSD). I enjoy going out to hike some weekends and usually go places where they can run off leash. Rocky loves it and runs all over the place, but Kiba is there because I'm there...he's happy to be where I am, but tends to "Just follow" and not be adventurous and high spirited like Rocky. He tends to have a "Blah, nature... can we go home yet?" attitude, while Rocky tends to be all over the place when we go hiking. Both of my pups are extremely intelligent and I've decided that in raising them that I would allow them to be individuals more than some people tend to prefer. I've not really trained them, but I've taught them to listen to my commands if I use a certain tone of voice (I can stop / recall them instantly, even if they want to chase something interesting - although this is 100% true for Kibashi, Rocky still tends to be a bit less responsive). Beyond that, they listen to me fairly well if I'm directing them to get in the car or sit/stay/get out of the kitchen. For me, training Kibashi was more like teaching him English. He seems to understand almost anything I can throw at him, within reason. For a dog, he has a very large vocabulary he understands.
One thing I've learned about GSDs, or at least Kibashi, he's not the most affectionate. We're a pack, I'm the alpha. If I call him he comes, he enjoys pets/attention, but he's not an attention whore, nor does he get cuddly with me often. He prefers to make sure I portray a strong alpha image and he doesn't allow me to show him otherwise much.
Sorry such a long reply, I hope some of this information is useful. I could go into my "training/not really training" techniques a bit more, but they're a bit unconventional compared to what most trainers would teach. I'm happy to give advice, however. ^^

He sounds like he would fit in well with our household, actually. And while every dog is most certainly an individual, it's good to hear so many positive reports from white shepherd owners, of their loyalty, intelligence, and even temperament. No need to apologize for a long reply! It's what I hoped for. And in fact, I'd love to hear more about your "training/not really training techniques", as I'm constantly wanting to hear from all dog owners about the methods they use and the results of those methods. I don't adhere to any "one way" of raising dogs, and think that different things work for different people and different dogs, so I'd love to hear what works for you and your boys when you have the time. Thanks for getting back to me. ^^
