By late 1944, Hungary was in trouble. With Rumania siding with the Soviets, the southern border of Hungary was overrun with Soviet/Rumanian forces. Regent Miklos Horthy had been in secret negotiations with the Allies to take Hungary out of the war and he declared an armistace...only to be deposed by the Germans and a fanatical nationalist "Arrow Cross" member by the name of Szalasi put in power who carried on the war. Germany, now unimpressed with the Hungarian forces, sought to raise new units, of which the "Szent Laszlo" was one, named after Saint Ladislas I. This elite unit, formed in October 20, 1944, fought with distinction until their surrender to British forces on May of 1945. This trooper is armed with the unique Danuvia 43M 9mm submachine gun which was produced specifically for Hungarian parachute forces.
