I wanted to do something different than the Western Fantasy tradition of magic, but I also knew that it needed a coherent guiding philosophy. To make a long story short, the energy system is semi-grounded in theoretical physics - the basics of string theory and zero-point energy as best as I can understand it. The kobolds wield energy through movement and non-verbal thought, a method closest in spirit to Wudang Quan. I also wanted it to look visually striking, and I settled on pure light & electricity as the main visual motifs.
