...yeah, I mentioned it was a bit like an underground maze!
Anyway, I meant to post this the other day after talking having a chat about this structure with someone. But, I'm a little late ^^; Anyhoo, this is the general design for the Hybrid den. Each Hybrid has their own chamber...ah...well, except the cubs. They share one den (although, I need to rethink the location of their chamber. I'll probably move them between Coyote and Cougar).
There's a water chamber as well, a place where they can bathe and drink. This is where they were shown bathing in the other image, the bath scene It's supplied directly from the adjacent lake which they can also access from the Den, if they need or want to.
Lastly, there's an emergency escape tunnel that leads out of the Den to safety if the Hybrids find themselves under attack or if fire should break out or just any unexpected problem that falls upon them.

^_^ Thanks. It's a system, alright! There are a few things that need to be added, but, this was how it was laid out for the time. As for those green vents, they were air vents. I can't remember why, but for some reason, at the time, I thought they needed them ^^; But, looking at it now with new eyes, I think they're kinda useless!
What, you mean where Wolf is? The only problem there is that they're near the exit (same problem as to where they are now). If someone were to uncover that hidden exit, the cubs would be the first ones they happen across. That's why I think it's better to move them between Bear and Coyote or even between Bear and Lion/Lioness. That would be plenty of protection for them in the face of intruders
I was thinking of the one immediately to the right of Wolf. It looks like a junction of several pathways; not much privacy, but in a den society the cubs might not be accustomed to privacy anyway. It does look like there's a direct passageway to it; if you were to put the there, it would have to be removed to protect them.
...as for keeping the air shafts, they get a lot of air already from the den entrance and...well, they don't cook. They just eat their meat raw just like how they did when they were with their animal kin at their births. ...well, Bear eats nuts, berries and a bunch of other non-meat things, actually, but the others just eat raw meat...although Lioness does like the taste of the Natives' cooked meat.
Thank you! ^_^ ...alien viscera, eh?
Ah, as for the odd shapes, well, the sizes change depending on the space needed. Bear, for example, is the largest of the Hybrids and as such, needs just a bit more room. Lion and Lioness share a common den, so they need a bit of extra space as well. Wolf and Coyote are both fine with smaller dens and Cougar falls somewhere in between. The cubs also share a den, but since they're not so large, so they fall somewhere in the medium sized range
...ah...unless you mean why are they oddly shaped in which case...that's just because I had onlt the space of the paper to work with and needed to fit everything is

Because they need to keep themselves hidden from the humans. Underground is comfortable for them since most of them had their beginnings in an underground den of some sort. Wolves, foxes, coyotes and even bears and cougars have been known to make dens in the ground. Baring that, others were born in dens or nests in trees like Raccoon or in rocky caves like Snow Leopard, Lion and Lioness. So, they're all familiar with the den setup and given the choices of rocks, trees and underground, underground is the best. And, as you've already proven, no one would think to look for them underground because "why are normally terrestrial species in a subterranean environment"?
Well, the boys, (Wolf, Cougar, Bear & Lion) are taller than your average man. The girls, (Lioness and Coyote) are about the same size of a shorter man or a taller human woman. And the children (Fox, Raccoon and Snow Leopard) are the same size of your average 10 year old child with Snow Leopard being just a bit smaller.
And yeah, those colored lines are for ventilation and drainage. When it rains, the blue lines divert the water run-off away from the dens. The green ones are for added ventilation which may not be necessary, now that I think about it
