I used to do yearly self portraits and I've decided it's time to start that again. I actually have a pretty defined personal dress style these days.
2021 was hell. Sheer hell. It broke me and destroyed several of my friends, a couple of whom literally did not survive and Covid took away my ability to attend their funerals. But I'm still here and still kicking. Hello.
I have a chaotic good shirt and a Lawful good shirt. The lawful good shirt belongs to Uriel. Like I said, I'm chaotic good. If you ever go to Megaplex in Orlando, look in the Dealer's room for a short little middle aged woman resembling the image above. Gained a ton of weight, lost most of it, got older (I'm almost fifty), and made some life changes. I've had time to establish things that are 'Me'.
The catholic medals are a St Michael, St. Gabriel, St. Dymphna, and a St. Benedict medal along with a cross. I find making it obvious that I'm catholic helps folks who hate religious people get all that stuff out of the way at the beginning so there aren't any problems. It's quite useful!

"I find making it obvious that I'm catholic helps folks who hate religious people get all that stuff out of the way at the beginning so there aren't any problems."
I wish that wasn't a thing. I wish I didn't have friendships that were going nicely until "Wait, what do you mean you're Christian? You can't be Christian, you're too nice!" And then they decide they can't be my friend anymore.
Glad you're still around and kicking. It's been a heck of a few years.

Excuse me? What the fluff? Please tell me that this is but a joke. Are people over there really THAT shallow?
The only - and I mean ONLY - situation in which someone's religion (or ideology in general) becomes a problem for me is when that someone is trying to convert or bully me into joining that particular group.
Believe what you wish, but let me do likewise.

You're talking to someone whose minister father disowned her because she took religion seriously.
Saying that it's usually just a signal noise for people. Christians are one of those groups that it's okay to have a public bias towards, but if I wave a little flag and let them know without directly telling them they might bite those back. The ones who double down tell me all I need to know about who they are.

I agree that an ascribed label does not determine how good a person is. Our action do - or lack thereof.
That said, thank you for your praise. However, I merely am myself - which to me is nothing special. I just try to be a decent person. Whether or not I succeed in doing so is not on me to judge.

"Roads go ever ever on,
Over rock and under tree,
By caves where never sun has shone,
By streams that never find the sea;
Over snow by winter sown,
And through the merry flowers of June,
Over grass and over stone,
And under mountains in the moon.
Roads go ever ever on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.
Eyes that fire and sword have seen
And horror in the halls of stone
Look at last on meadows green
And trees and hills they long have known."

Cool, I wonder if my baby sister still has any embroidered jeans? She's got about a dozen years on you, though.
I should name my favorite walking stick, seen in this photo from a few years back. I took a photograph at the time of all Six Sticks. I need to shoot a new picture, as last Autumn I acquired a new stick that accentuates my bent posture.

The price went up considerably, but I got this cane when I realized I needed one: https://amzn.to/3Multhd
Naming it Aslan just seemed like the natural thing to do :)

I like it! And naming it Aslan is perfect. A little out of my price range.
My friend the custom knife maker will make me one with a bronze handle if I can finish the wax model for the head. I'm thinking a bear standing on all fours, the cane between his forelegs. I need to get some modeling wax...

lol Chaotic Good, nice to meet a fellow D&D Nerd! Though you know, I have to agree, it's been very tough these last few years over all. I'm glad you're making it through though, and I'm happy to have met and to know you! You're a fun person, lol and my go to for Yogl art! You do them very well, as you do the rest of your art!!
D&D nerd, eh? Not sure I qualify, although I have played a variety of different chatacters over the years, ranging from lawful good, to lawful evil, to chaotic good. Just chaotic evil is too far out of character for me to be comfortable with. That said, alignment is not my biggest problem with the system. The classes are. I always end up with a multiclass of at least two classes (often more) right from the get-go.
I've always wanted to Multi-Class, but I've never got the chance to! lol Our campaigns have ended before that point, but the ending of the last one was pretty fun! But the whole alignment thing has been a source of fun for me, trying to design characters around that scale, and believe me, by this point, I have a terrible backlog of characters waiting for campaigns lol!
well, yeah. The lawful evil character i have run for a while was in essence an archdevil posessing the body of a winged Tiefling warlock. Had the campaign gone on, he might have taken over the village the party was based out of with his scheming.
Another character i am currently running in one campaign is a paladin/hexblade warlock with an enormous hate-boner towards fiends (who just so happens to be stuck in the Nine Hells at the moment - which amusingly enough is rather delightful to the character as that allows him to remove a number of fiends from the board permanently. Then, there is a chaotic good ex-pit-fighter Centaur Fighter/Rogue/Druid, and a neutral good Tabaxi Monk/Rogue (who might have added either Ranger or Druid if the campaign had gone on)

Oh that's such a cool twist!! lol I have a Lawful Evil Teifling Barbarian, named Pain, that I'm waiting to include in a future campaign!
That's one of the things I love the most about D&D, just seeing the creativity of people and what sorts of characters they can come up with!! lol you wouldn't mind if I ramble a touch about a few of mine, would you?

Not at all. Go ahead. in terms of unbridled creativity in terms of character development I do have to say i very much prefer Shadowrun 4th Edition - where you essentially have no classes whatsoever. You have certain roles that you CAN fill if you want, but you don't have to.
Subsequent editions reduced this freedom to some extent by replacing the original Build-point system withg some sort of modular thing which i despise for this very reason. it also is why SR4 remains my favourite system to this day.

You know, I've always wanted to play Shadowrun, ever since I first listened to Kikoskia play it! I know I want to play Traveller too! >.> Even though I hate the way it's spelled! I like the idea that your character might not be how you imagined them, and you have to roll with the punches, like life, but that said, lol I also love being able to just geek out at work and make up characters with these cool backstories and motivations all their own! My DM is very good about working what he can into a story!
I have
Ritmoure, who I go into his story here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42977353/ and who has this very fun speaking tick to help really sell his overly manic nature: in that he repeats words he finds important, usually verbs in a sentence, and hisses his S's if the sentence ends in them by just add three or four Es's. Books becoming Bookseses, ect
and Lord Biels Omnibus: the human Paladin in our current campaign who is 250 years old, having invented a magical suit for himself to keep him alive long enough, and strong enough, to track down a former paladin who betrayed his order, and to strike him down. Despite being kept alive for the sole purpose of revenge and avenging his fallen comrades, he didn't get his suit right overnight, and has been a tender and loving Grandfather to 6 generations of his family, which is a nice contrast for a character that otherwise has the bitter taste of hatred forever in his heart.
lol and those are only the two I've played so far! I have a cool Warforged I'm working on, a Cleric whose basically a flesh golem, a Teifling Barbarian, and a Dark elf fighter whose gone BADLY mad by peeking outside of time and space, and seeing all of infinity at once.

As much fun as that speaking habit may be to you, it might also cause some headaches to non-native-speakers of English such as myself when trying to figure out what the character said. But so long as you and your group are having fun, that is all that matters.
And to be fair, I have an NPC in my Shadowrun campaign who also has a bit of a speech-peculiarity - in that most of his speaking sounds like a hoarse whisper with a bit of a hiss to it - which in his case has a biological reason. See, Narayana is a Naga - basically a very big poisonous serpent with the ability to speak. As for how big he is: 12 meters long and half a meter in circumference (a little under 40 feet and 1.6 feet respectively) On land he is rather slow to move, due to his size, but when he gets into water, he becomes scarily quick. And you really REALLY don't want to get bitten by him. Not only is there no known antitoxin to a Naga's venom, but it also is potent enough to take down most people within two or maybe three turns at most. And that is only his physical abilities. His magical capabilities are a whole different story on top of that.
at some point the party was tasked with retrieving a missing person who after some investigation turned out to be held in an underground lab. When the characters entered the place, however, they found a good chunk of the place thoroughly trashed - because the staff had seriously underestimated this serpent. As a result the grup did not find a lab crewed by armed staff ans scientists, but rather a scene from a horror movie with a variety of paranormal animals running rampant in the facility. The two Fenris Wolves they took in as essentially pets were pretty much among the more harmless creatures down there - and we are talking wolves the size of a horse here after all.

lol thankfully we all play in person, and they're all coworkers of mine, so there wasn't any confusion in language.
WOW They sound like a neat character!! lol and the horror scene around the lab sounds really cool!! What was the naga like in personality and morality?

not so much was, but rather is. He is still alive. since Naga are effectively animals with human-level intellect, he very much reflects that. Young, energetic, and curious basically. But with strong instincts about how to overcome prey - even if that prey is the size of a human or troll. Most of his magic is utilitarian in nature - meaning means of battlefield- or crowd-control. Barriers, mind probe, impulse (effectively the magical version of an EMP), that sort of thing. His repertoire of combat spells is limited. This is because he is not intended to steal spotlight from the party, but rather to support them - also it ties into his backstory and place in the overall campaign. He is effectively an emissary of the Naga-kingdom in Angkor Wat to a certain individual only parts of the party have so far encountered. essentally setup for the next chapter of the campaign.
As for morality, he is what you would expect a sentient animal to be. Her has made one particular friend - a young girl of maybe 14 years - and is rather protective of her. Apart from that, the group hasn't dived much into his story yet.
Said girl effectively is an urchin - albeit in this case an urchin with quite a powerful friend. And in addition to that she got taken in by one of my players and now lives with her people (and the two aforementioned big ol' wolves the party adopted).
Just imagine anyone trying something stupid with her - only to find themselves face-to-face ith a serpent that dwarfs even an anaconda by a factor of 2-3 - scary as all hell even if you don't know that that snake is also poisonous...

lol I'm so sorry for the delayed reply! Goodness me! But I like the way you convey of his distinctly inhuman intelligence! And goodness, crowd control magic, lucky! I wasn't so good with that for Ritmoure, it was usually trying to go all in on one target and keeping the heavier hitters up for the fight. What level have you gotten up to? lol I didn't change mine much once I picked them. lol originally Ritmoure was potentially going to betray the party, but everyone generally came to like him and his antics, and when the big bad doublecrossed Ritmoure's ignorance, he stood by them and helped saved the day! lol his journey was interesting! Our campaigns last a year before we start a new campaign in the same world. As for your naga, his level of presence makes a lot of sense given that he's an Emissary: observe and keep to the back! I want to play one too, but that'll be later as our story/world grows!
Aww! Well that's sweet to know, and does show him growing beyond, and with the capability of being more than, an animal! I'm sure she's in good hands, lol or perhaps claws rather! lol that's a very good level of protection for her though, especially with his talent in crowd protection too! Ritmoure had a little girl that kept close to him for a little, a false hydra had beset the town leaving her unknowingly as an orphan, and despite being as cartoonishly evil as he was, Ritmoure was the only one that really made sure she stayed safe!

Shadowrun doesn't have levels per say. Nor does it have classes for that matter. Not in the D&D-sense anyhow. Within a team of runners there are certain roles that should be filled (but don't necessarily have to). A hacker for instance. Or a rigger to support the team with drones. Or a mage to deal with threats pertaining to the arcane. Or a Street-Samurai - essentially your non-magical combat character of some description or other - typically decked out with a lot of cyberware. And of course no team would be complete without a "Face" - someone adept at the whole social stuff, doing the negotiating with employers for instance - or sweet-talking guards at a facility the team is to infiltrate.. that sort of stuff. Do note though, that all these roles do not require individual characters each. There can be quite significant overlap in the required skills - which as a matter of fact is even encouraged by giving the option to support other members of the party to complete a given task.
The way character progression happens in Shadowrun is through karma - which the characters can gain through completing runs for example. And improving a given skill or attribute then has a scaling cost in karma points to unlock: The higher the skill, the more karma you need to unlock it.
Since the group is still in the first chapter of the campaign, they haven't gotten all that much karma yet, but managed to unlock a few things already. two of my players obtained the necessary skills to train the wolves they adopted. As if genetically engineered fenris wolves weren't scary enough as is, they are going to turn them into dedicated guard-wolves - which is an altogether different level of terrifying for any trespasser...

Oh God! I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am! I'm so sorry! I read Genesis's journal, and for a moment, I wasn't sure who Mugsy was and I felt so guilty that, if it was you, I'd squandered 10 months that I could've put into having a conversation with someone who was suffering, and offering them some kind of moment's respite in shared fandom! I've been quietly kicking myself over that for awhile now! I am so sorry that I take a moment in this time of grieving for my own relief. You both have my deepest condolences and sympathies!
And goodness, I'd forgotten that this wasn't in D&D! Again, my deepest apologies for letting this hang for so long! That's interesting though, and I do love a setting with a good mix of scifi and magic! I think that might've been some of the appeal with Star Wars, that and the dirty, lived in aesthetic that everything had! I'm going to have to look into the Shadowrun system! I know Traveller is another one I wanted to look into and potentially play one day!
How long do these games normally go? lol and that sounds monumentally bad ass: genetically augmented wolves!!

Mugsy? Are you sure that reply was directed at me? I have no idea what you are talking about.
I am enjoying our conversation, and although I have a fair bit of mental baggage, I wouldn't call myself "suffering" because of it. I suppose you are thinking of someone else. Either way, I am happy that you got back to me.

I misinterpreted Genesis's journal for a person that had passed. Mugsy, it turns out, was her cat. But for some reason, I thought it might've been you, and I started to feel terribly guilty for leaving you hang for so long. The whole suffering thing was because apparently Mugsy was battling lymphoma. But either way, I'm glad I replied too! I enjoy talking about TTRPG characters and adventures! They're incredibly fun!
I don't like curtailing a campaign if I can at all avoid it. Quite the contrary. The longer a campain is going on, the more attached the players get to their characters - and the more memorable moments they accumulate as their characters forge an epic story (moreover due to the nature ofthe Shadowrun setting that would be an epic story only a select handful ever learn the full picture of. Others just get maybe a glimpse here or there, tantalizing them with the knowledge that there is much more to it...
Agreed!! That's kinda how I thought my DM was going to do it when I first joined the group. I mean, with this style, I get to try out more characters more often, but at the same time, I would love for some of my characters to go on longer adventures and just see where they go as people lol.
*nods* unfortunately Shadowrun as a system has a tendency to cause a fair amount of attrition among characters. There are ways to mitigate that, but there really isn't much in the way of plot armor. That does, however, help to convey just hoe dangerous firearms are, which adds to the immersion.
not so in Shadowrun. That much I can assure you. Depending on what you get hit by and how good your armor is, a single shat CAN kill a character... Especially so since characters don't usually gain progressively more hitpoints like in D&D for instance. Your average human in Shadowrun has 10-11 hitpoints. That's it. And a heavy pistol for example deals a minimum of 6 - although that can be (and typically is) mitigated by armor. And sincer Shadowrun works with dice-pools that means you can get either more damage out of such a shot, or get a bunch of dice to throw for mitigating damage. A regular bulletproof vest for example has a ballistic armor of 3 - meaning you get 3 dice in addition to your constitution to throw for mitigating damage (for an average human that means 6-7 dice total) s if you get shot you throw those dice and subtract the number of successes (meaning 5s and 6s) from the damage you take. Pretty straightforward. but that does give you an idea just how lethal the system can be if you arn't careful. And this also incentivizes not getting shot at to begin with - ideally by not getting detected while you do whatever job you were hired for..
Dang! But just as well, a gun should be something that's taken seriously! And that's an interesting system too, it certainly drives home the importance of good armor! I'll have to look into the setting more in my own time! But for now, I appreciate your recounting of your adventures and the game! I look forward to talking to you again! lol but I think we've done enough damage to Genesis's comment's section here!
Well I married a D&D nerd and my friends are all D&D nerds so it gets soaked up like it or not ;) But we've had instances where I've shown I have the constitution of a bull elephant despite being a tiny little shrimp woman, so it was determined that I am some species of dwarf. Another friend said I am a hill dwarf because they get a bonus to HP. Husband has said I'm a sorcerer but I feel more like a bard. Both do magic with charisma in their own ways ;)
lol that's utterly amazing! lol you're a multiclass! lol normally I go Lawful Good Paladin, but it's been fun for me to try out different classes! I've had the chance to play a chaotic neutral sorcerer! lol he was one of my most fun characters just because of how over the top and sour he was! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/42977353/ this was him!
