This one is an older commission for
swordfox of his character Mark McCloud as part of the crowd watching the fireworks show at Anthrocon from the balcony of the convention center looking across the river towards the stadium..
With their permission, I also included a group of other furs in the crowd who generally attend Anthrocon. From left to right: Waarhorse, Ace and Kristania (as avatars for Noriko and I),
swordfox,
silentravyn,
nachtfuchs,
tanidareal, and
shinigamigirl
All characters are copyright their respective owners.
Done with micron inks and acrylic paints on 8"x13" illustration board. I didn't count the hours on this one, but it took a while - 4 or 5 days of work.

Good lord, is that ever beautiful! Absolutely fantastic work!
Some people do well with backgrounds but not so well with characters. Others do well with characters, but not so hot on backgrounds.
You don't create either one. You make a living, breathing scene, where everything touches everything else. It's not a portrayal of foreground and background, it's a window into your mind's eye.
I don't know if you've ever published any demonstrations of how you color, but if you have, I would be immensely interested in seeing them. I really think that I could learn a lot by seeing your process.

Thank you for the reference help with the photos - that helped me out so much! I'm glad you like how it turned out =D. It was interesting to take daylight references and cross reference them with nighttime references of a totally different place to try to get an idea of what it would look like at night.
Gorgeous, Kacey. This brings back fond memories. :D I don't know Pittsburgh all that well, but I'm pretty sure I walked across that bridge. I definitely recognize those hills though—they're what really stand out in my memory, since I live in the prairies.
But yeah, enough of my nostalgia. The lighting in this is great, especially with the digital camera.

my seven year old daughter wanted to look over my shoulder, and really liked it.. but she doesn't believe the stadium structure is real.. (we're from Nebraska and have never been there) *grins* Oh, and SHE would make the bridge taller.. She's very opinionated. *laughs* She did point out that her camera looks like that one, though.. You do great work as always, and it was nice to be able to share some some of your cool artwork with my daughter.. she already fills notebooks with pictures of ponies, people and rainbows, oh my...
would it be okay if i shared this image if i credit you and post a link???
