Loosely inspired by this WWII poster!
After some hesitation I decided to post this one since today's the 69th anniversary of death of Joseph Stalin - and it's harrowing to see that Russian leaders haven't progressed much since the deepest, darkest Stalinist Era. Still willing to murder and imprison thousands of innocent people as well as turn entire cities into rubble because they don't take "no" for an answer. Filthy rich, disgusting ghouls that don't care about human life in the slightest.
My heart breaks for my Ukrainian brothers and sisters, I absolutely support your fight for freedom. Russia has been repeatedly trying to wipe my own country off the map since the 18th century, Russian army forced my grandma and her family to leave their homeland forever, Russian government imprisoned my great grandpa in Siberia. But they never destroyed my nation. I believe Ukraine will prevail too! This is your land, your home, your legacy - no dictator can erase that no matter the atrocities they resort to.
I feel horribly sorry for ordinary Russians as well. Make no mistake: average Russians are good people, just completely powerless against the monsters in Kremlin. Many of the Russian soldiers don't even understand what they're fighting for. I'm not talking about the ruthless killers that are targeting civilians and their infrastructure, but the young and scared boys. Soon their bodies will burn in mobile crematoriums and their families will be told that their sons, brothers and fathers "went missing" because this is how Moscow repays her fallen soldiers.
I watched bits of Russian propaganda... Only snippets because watching more would make me want to punch a hole in the wall. If you live in Russia and don't have access to information from the outside, know this: what you hear is the absolute opposite of reality. Whenever you hear that Zelenskyy fled, it means he's with his people in Kyiv. Whenever you hear that Ukrainians are murdering civilians and bombing cities into ash, it's Russians who do it. Whenever you hear that Russian troops are welcomed with cheers and flowers, it means they're welcomed with curses and Molotov cocktails.
I live close to the Ukrainian border and hear the stories of refugees.

I recently heard that this is the biggest war fought in Europe since WWII and I'm willing to believe that this is true. The Russian invasion was planned for at least 2 years (maybe more) and it's likely that the initial plan was to seize only Donetsk and Luhansk, while Kiyv was added last minute - and it backfired terribly at Russia. NATO participated in training and supplying Ukrainian troops months/years before the war broke out, which is one of the reasons why their resistance is so fierce. Russian troops, on the other hand, are frequently inexperienced and badly coordinated, their gear is outdated and faulty. The mass-bombing of cities and towns is a result of that. Since they can't make any significant advances in time they were planned, they resort to terror.
It's generally agreed that the goal of this war is to turn Ukraine into a failed state, ruled by a puppet that's entirely loyal to Kremlin. Lukashenko's Belarus is a good example of what Russia wants to make Ukraine into, minus the physical destruction of course. The main purpose is to build more distance between the EU & NATO members and Russia, give Russia control over its neighbouring countries. And this is an absolute failure on Moscow's behalf - since now more countries want to join the EU as well as NATO. It's been a good while since I saw so much cooperation in Europe! Almost everyone is focused on uniting against a mutual enemy.
Sanctions are doing their job. They're inducing panic in Russia and destabilizing its economy, many Russians want to leave their country now, but most of them can't. The influx of Ukrainian refugees is huge, though they are generally welcomed with open hands. But leaving Ukraine gets more hazardous by the day as train tracks and roads are being bombed, many private cars are out of gas with nowhere to fuel up. Fleeing on foot is also risky as Russian deserters are roaming the country, killing people for their food and supplies.
This summary is a mix of things I heard in interviews with generals and war analysts, as well as personal accounts of refugees that are in touch with my family & friends. Feel free to ask me specific questions if you have any!

WoW, we are told a completely different version!
In 2014, the USA staged a coup d'état in Ukraine, as a result of which the Nazis came to power. The republics of the LPR and the DPR did not support the new regime. Therefore, Kiev gave the order to attack civilians in these republics. The shelling continued for 8 years. During this time, the USA placed their missile launchers on the territory of Ukraine to strike at Russia. Recently, intelligence received information that on February 25, a missile attack on neighboring countries will be launched from the territory of Ukraine. For the sake of saving millions of lives and clearing Ukraine of Nazism, Putin brought in troops.
P.S. This description is rather rough, but I think the meaning is clear. (Google Translate)

It's okay, I can understand you with no problem! Thank you for providing an insight into this narrative - I was mostly familiar with it, though this is the first time I heard about the date.
It's wild, isn't it? I definitely see some parallels between this official Russian version and the way Soviets described their aggressions on Poland in 1939 and 1945. Whenever Russian leaders say they want to "liberate" or "de-nazify" another country, you can safely bet the outcome will be the opposite.
This war is a full-fledged invasion on independent, sovereign Ukraine, but, on a higher scale, it's also Putin's war against NATO. Putin was counting on the United States dismantling or leaving NATO back when Trump was in office, yet thankfully that didn't happen. He decided to resort to brute force & began mobilizing troops along Ukrainian border. I remember that the subject of these troops resurfaced quite often in media and private conversations, and many ordinary people downplayed the threat, but my grandma - a WWII survivor - kept telling me that the war was approaching.
Here in Europe it's universally agreed that Putin has absolutely misjudged the situation. Overestimated the Russian forces, underestimated the Ukrainian army and even regular people. He thought that the US and EU were divided and weak. Turns out Ukraine is defending herself fiercely, both Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking groups united against the occupants. And the West's response was firm and consistent in condemning Putin's actions. While Russia may be able to seize some parts of Ukraine (Putin claims he wants it all, but I don't believe he can afford that), it's undeniable now: this is going to be a Pyrrhic victory. It's going to make Russia weaker, isolated and disrespected all around the globe, probably much more dependent on China as well.

There's definitely a lot of propaganda on both sides - no doubt about it.
I don't use common media as my information source at all, though. Don't watch television at all, don't read any newspapers & only listen to the radio for the music. I absolutely don't trust my government. Most of my information came from interviews with war analysts, political scientists, book authors, generals and other armed forces members. Apart from that, my family is friends with one Ukrainian family that fled the war, they shared their story in detail. Ukrainian ladies come here to take care of my widowed grandpa, they talk about their experience. My workplace runs an aid point for Ukrainians & is currently preparing to hire a Ukrainian refugee, these people bring their stories too. These are my sources.
When I was referring to the opposite of reality in that description, I was addressing the most blatant lies that popped up soon after the war started. Back when Russian state-owned media panicked and came up with the most twisted reasons to justify the aggression. What's the situation right now I honestly don't know, I stopped following it. Do you guys still get arrested for calling the war anything else than special military operation?
Why aren't I allowed to share my viewpoint, but you are? You brought up reasonable arguments, but weakened your own point with that sentence and the unnecessary insult.

It frustrates me that this guy wants to make the people in Ukraine suffer badly just to get what he wants. I hope that this guy will lose and he he won't get what he wants and he will be stop very soon and i pray for all of the people there will be all allright it will solved also hope that the people who don't agreed with this in russia won't be hated because of this
That's right, I can't wrap my mind around it all. I never thought I'd see another full-fledged war in Europe, let alone just across my border. I pray it ends soon, nobody wanted this aggression except for a couple of vicious, corrupt leaders. Russian people don't deserve to be punished for their government's actions. Thank you for the comment!
I have a counter question, why are you silent when Ukrainians write cruel posts against Russians?
I live in Russia, I didn’t do anything bad to anyone, my friends generally help Ukraine in any way they can (but the Russians themselves now have a lot of problems due to sanctions), but nevertheless they try to help. And in response, I see only spitting at any Russian people, and even here.
We were to blame for everything, I'm an ordinary person, just like you.
So please think.
Why should I hate myself for Russian? Almost every Ukrainian writes about this. So why should I hate my family??? Or be ashamed of yourself because of it.
Isn't that nationalism? If I do not have the right to life how are you? Why? because I was born, and I have to give up myself?
Please think again.

i'm sorry that you that the ukrainian write you cruel post about you and all the people in your country i don't remember if i've seen a lot of these post but i've maybe passed a few of them and without reading them or much but i did tough that some people would blame russia knowing that often when something like this happens they often blame the country instead of just the guilty ones who did this and it shouldn't be like that but i might not of realise how bad it would be and i wasn't sure if i could do something that would change anything and you're right you shouldn't be hated and your family either it's not your fault you shoudn't be ashamed either and you do had as much right as anyone else to live maybe i could do a post i'm not sure if it would change much but it could be better than nothing
I have a bit of trouble understanding this since it's been 9 years since I last spoke Russian (and I only learned the basics), but what I've gathered is that people are displaying svastikas in your country? That's disgusting. It's horrible that we see the return of people who believe and support these old felonious ideologies. Please stay strong!
I wasn't actively using FA until 2017.
I don't know you, you don't know me. It's not right to imply that I didn't care. Aggression is always the wrong way to go, no matter who is the first to start the conflict.
The current number of recorded civilian casualties in Ukraine is 1,006 people. 331 killed, 675 injured. Well over 1 million refugees scattered across Europe, about 790,000 in Poland alone. And these people are traumatised beyond words.

Hello, I'm here to answer. It happened on a workday while I was studying in college.
Our teachers warned us to be more careful that day. I knew something would happen because there was so much hate propaganda and so many calls to action on VK (a Russian social media platform). It was a mess—there were street fights with weapons, and many people were injured on both sides. Six people were killed.
When you say, "Where were you when people were burned alive in Odessa..."—they are not the police. You should ask the police these questions. You should also ask why no one tried to stop it before it happened. But I understand why you say that. However, it seems like this argument is often used to justify the war.

Let me be absolutely clear: this argument is invalid and cannot justify any war or aggression towards civilians. It happened almost 11 years ago, on May 2, 2014, and after that, Odesa remained peaceful until 2022. Russia failed to achieve its goals and is angry about it.
You're no better if you try to justify the war and aggression against Ukraine.

It's pretty crazy whats going on right now. Hoping your friends and family, and especially the citizens of Ukraine and Russian civilians are staying safe! This is a really great pic though despite the sad thing it represents. You should look for work as a war propoganda artists :D haha
It's horrifying, never thought I'd see a full-scale war in Europe in my life! Russian troops are resorting to killing civilians as they are unable to make any significant advances, casualties as young as a 18-month old baby were reported today :( Thank you, this one was fun to work on, I've always really enjoyed the WWII propaganda cartoons!
I was referring to the state of things on that particular day, but to be honest - I don't think Russia will be able to seize whole Ukraine even if Putin's army manages to capture strategic cities. Ukraine is still mobilizing troops in the western part of the country, foreign enlistees are pouring in, NATO countries keep sending supplies, morale remains high. Russia has more soldiers, but probably not enough to occupy such a vast territory with millions of people who are and will remain extremely hostile towards Russians. Russian morale is dropping and their losses are growing, their logistics and supply chains are staggering & their domestic problems are rising along with sanctions and bits of information still slipping through despite all the censorship. These are my thoughts based on the current situation - but war is very unpredictable, so things may change a lot!
Yes, I'd say that brotherhood of nations doesn't play a big role in international affairs, it's mostly about the interests of governments. Americans may have little in common with Ukrainians, yet their governments share certain strategic goals. And as for Russian leaders, they are their own category - they have a thing for talking about something and then doing the exact opposite...
Thank you so much, I appreciate your words!
I agree, from what I've gathered the majority of Russian people went from not understanding this war to supporting it. Only because their media tell them that Ukrainians don't have the right to live... It's harrowing to know how effective Kremlin's propaganda is and how quickly it can reshape the opinions across the country.

How can this single event disprove everything? There are tens of thousands of undisciplined Russians in Ukraine, hundreds of satellite images, photos, videos, testimonies, eyewitnesses. My family has friends that fled the war. There's an aid point for Ukrainians at my workplace. These people share their stories and believe me, they are gruesome, some include rape. We had several people from Mariupol, I could still see the fear in their eyes.
Good question, please answer it yourself since you keep replying.

I was a kid that bullies feasted on in my schooldays. I grew up to hate bullies. How could I not love the strength and courage of Ukraine?
And President Zelenkyy's address to us? My goodness. I not only love Ukraine, I want America and Ukraine to be strong allies for decades.
