Well I was kinda hoping that the new region was inspired by SoCal/Mexico, but apparently it's old Espana itself? Let's hope Nintendo doesn't run into the "Spexico" trope and not mess up fictional Spain too much.
Oh, about the pepper gator... Well what more can I say? I just hope the final evolution is cool and worth getting emotionally attached to.
