I want to tell you a little about my life in the basement. Two weeks… It's not easy, but we all hold on. Almost my whole family is here. There were other people with us before, I once told you about 7 children. They recently went to the village. Now we are a little less here. My father has a very good basement at work. He makes wooden products, so we are surrounded by machines and boards. Thanks to this we can heat the stove. It's cold and snowing outside now, so that's a big plus.
We also took two of our cats here. They are constantly attacking each other, but they have to live in the same room. I made them toilets out of cardboard boxes and poured sawdust into them, which is also plentiful here. I was lucky enough to buy a lot of food, so cats have something to eat.
Grandma prepares food for the whole family. She survived the post-war famine and now says food is very important. Everyone should be well fed. We went to the city several times to buy groceries. Grandma prepares borsch almost every day. But I seem to have lost a lot of weight. I think it's because of constant nervousness and a lot of news. We have water and light. Sometimes I can even take a shower.
It is very restless at night. Even downstairs, in the basement, I can sometimes hear sirens or flying planes, although usually thick walls drown out these sounds. Sounds make me very nervous at night. I react to everything I hear, it always seems to me that something is exploding or flying over us. Very often the trumpets make terrible sounds and I can't sleep because I listen to them. I am especially afraid that I will not be able to hear the danger because all my relatives, with whom I sleep in the same room, snore very loudly. So I watch the news until I'm exhausted and fall asleep. Awakening is very difficult. It's always hard for me to wake up, but now it hurts even more. I sleep in a sleeping bag on a mattress and my back hurts a lot and my legs are dragging. I sleep in a hat, the first few nights I had a cold head. I think it also affected the fact that I was sick recently.
By the way, I am completely healthy now. Sometimes I have a stuffy nose, but it's not that scary. So far, there are enough drugs.
I have been trying to play sports for several days now. I started squatting. I also found an old mat here and now I do abdominal crunches every night. It's not easy for me, my muscles ache all the time. A small bonus from the constant announcement of an air alarm - I run down and up the stairs several times a day. Yesterday I found a punching bag. Now it's helping me vent my anger. I talked about this a bit in the last post.
Not so I wanted to start a healthy lifestyle…
I try to keep working. Sometimes it's hard, I don't have enough strength. I have with me 3 colored markers, liners, pencil, eraser and sketchbook. Recently, I also found gray and black markers and a white pen in my backpack. My father has a computer and a scanner in the office, so I can process my drawings to make them look more or less decent. Unfortunately, the office is upstairs, and I've had to turn off my computer and run to the basement several times. So the work is sometimes complicated. But all is well, I'm glad I can work at least that way. Art will live in any conditions.

I am glad to hear you are still able to be here and connect to the internet! Your description of your experience is very eye-opening and yet very saddening still. My heart goes out to those who are unable to escape the areas of war like you and your family - to involve civilians in a conflict is truly despicable. I hope the rest of the world and my country (the USA) will hear the cries of injustice and impose harsher measures to force this evil conflict to cease.
Stay safe!💙💛

I like reading updates, but I don't know what to say. Things like "stay safe" or "stay strong" feel like they are getting old.
How do you say something like "Peace for Ukraine" or "Peace to Ukraine"? Google translate indicates "Миру Україні", but knowing Google translate that might mean "Peas for Our train"

We hear about people huddled in basements but never really "know" what it is like until we read these first hand accounts. Thank you for sharing yours. I hope it becomes a story you will be able to tell your grandkids about in better times. I wish you all the best.
