Designed as an evolution of both the V-21R and V-21A Cyclone, the V-22 was meant to be a proper successor of the previous two designs. Built around a pair of engines that were themselves developed from the engines of the V-21R Cyclone as well as utilizing the same wing structure as it, the engines allowed the V-22 Typhoon to keep pace with most interceptors while packing both a decently strong shield generator and a Class 1.5 Hyperdrive. The V-22 packed the same KX9 Medium Laser Cannons as found on the Incom T-65 X-Wing but also featured an evolution of the same turrets found on the V-21's of the clone wars which mounted the IX4 Laser Cannons, a unique feature of the craft was the ability to retract the astromech into the fuselage for protecting the exposed droid and to allow the turret a 360 degrees of rotation for added offensive punch.
