And after a time-consuming and very popular picture, back to something nobody will care about. Well, maybe someone. A friend mentioned how he liked this very early sequence in Walt Kelly's Pogo where Albert was water-bloated, and that I'd drawn once ages ago. So I went and tried again.

This is based on a panel from that same 1949 sequence (where Albert accidentally swallows a tadpole). I tried changing the model from the prototypical Albert of that first year into something closer to the mainline Albert design. From this I noticed Albert lost a lot of cute little scales and spots and other alligator greebles. The shift wasn't perfectly successful, partly because what made the original bloated Albert look real was how his arms and legs attached to his body and that changed completely between 1949 and, like, 1952.

The real lesson is to draw Albert, you want the horizontal stripes across his belly to be doubled up. He looks like 145 percent more right with the lines doubled.

The Rackety-Coon Chile had nothing to do with the original story, but I like drawing him, so here he is, hoping to make use of all that surplus water.
