There was something strange about how her mane felt on the journey up into the clouds, but she didn't pay it any heed.
Turns out that she should have.
The dragon looks down at the two blue jays that had smuggled their way onto her body. At first, she fears for them, moving her claws to collect them. Up at this altitude, there was no they could breathe the thin, frigid air.
But their expressions give her pause. For however frightened they should be, the birds gaze at the world beyond with wonderment. She can see their small, beady eyes transfixed on the dragons wheeling through the skies above, their wingtips cutting through cloud and streaking the azure blues with their triumph. Though they are just simple birds, Spinel swears that she could see something in their eyes, something akin to... yearning.
Something about them reminds the dragon of herself, once upon a time years ago.
Spinel folds her claws back into herself, and chases the errant thought away with a flick of her tail. She does not interrupt the birds marveling at the skies above.
