The Slayn and Korpil V-23 Firestorm was a type of pure space superiority Starfighter designed with the task of clearing the skies of planets of enemy craft. The Firestorm was highly maneuverable, possessed advanced targeting computers, a short-ranged Class 1.5 Hyperdrive, had six fire-linked light blaster cannons, two enhanced medium blaster cannons, two multipurpose launch tubes capable of carrying either concussion missiles or proton torpedoes, and was capable of ejecting the entire forward cockpit section as a form of escape unit. All in all, the V-23 was advanced for its time and for this reason it was only used sparingly by Republic forces. After the Reformation, the corporation continued production of the V-23 on the open market as an 'Anti-Pirate Starfighter' however the this was a lie thought up by the corporation as it was intended for use by Rebellious citizens against the Empire. A number of V-23's saw use against both Pirates and Imperial forces, the production run of the V-23 ended in 5 BBY as all of the corporations production facilities were re-purposed for the production of TIE series Starfighters by the order of the Imperial military. Following the collapse of the Empire, the V-23 was briefly revived for a short period of time before being shelved all together due to newer designs being put forth by the Corporation in support of the newly formed New Republic.
