Finally updated Mel and Arthur; so now they're no longer all cute and happy together. As it damn well should be.
Name: Melanie Altaic
Species: Luxray
Battle Skill: Above Average
Average Grades: 58%
Age: 15
Height: 6’6.7” (2m)
Weight: 134.2lbs (61kg)
Grade: Junior
Family: Father: Michael Altaic (Manectric)
Mother: Ramona Altaic (Luxio)
History:
Melanie was originally from overseas, an inhabitant of one of the less developed islands of the world, ending up in the PCA as part of a program to incorporate the islands in the mainstream civilisation of the major regions.
Melanie was 13 when she was sent to the PCA, having been raised on the island, named Pulau Belantara, as an only child. The island was still rather primitive in terms of it’s culture, having trouble leaving behind the species prejudices that evolved from the species’ predator and prey relationships. Being a Luxray, Melanie wasn’t the victim of these prejudices, instead enjoying the luxury of being the ‘ruling class’ of sorts of the island. In the PCA however she had problems getting used to being bossed around by the species she would have lorded over in her homeland, but luckily she was not stubborn enough to hold onto this opinion for too long, although it still remains in her subconscious; instead finding far more trouble in fitting into the demands of the PCA’s everyday life; quickly becoming far more cynical in her mannerisms than she used to be in an attempt to fit in.
To help her learn this fact of life she was sent to the PCA with another person from her island, a Minun named Arthur; and a member of the serving class of their original society. The two get along rather awkwardly, with Arthur rather terrified of Melanie due to their social status on the island, and the Luxray all too happy to nigh-on abuse their relationship. Since then the two have kept close to each other, being ‘best friends’ through their years at the school.
Personality:
Melanie is fairly friendly, if a bit of a tomboy. She tends to be rather snarky and sarcastic, often teasing her fellow students, though she never really means much harm. Unlike many of the school’s tomboys though she tends to be more outwardly emotional, although she still is somewhat reserved. While Melanie is far from being the kindest girl of the school she is still reasonably nice to her classmates, although she can be a bit forceful, especially to typically smaller species, as per her old culture. She’s quite easily offended by comments, especially those about her body, and thanks to having been used to a life of luxury is fairly selfish; although Arthur tends to get the most of her crueler traits’ effects rather than anyone else.
Melanie can be rather lazy, a trait that emerged in her childhood due to the abundance of maids and other civil servants which handled pretty much all of her needs when she was young. Because of this she has a tendency to ask favours often or simply order people around, although she’s somewhat more polite nowadays. Although for the most part she just orders Arthur around instead; mainly due to it being far easier to do so.
Interests:
Melanie enjoys fighting far more than her best friend Arthur, taking time off in the school’s gym to train and fighting in the arena often, and is often found training during school hours. Outside of school hours, though, she likes to spend her time sleeping and otherwise relaxing, being a feline; or just trying to be social. Most of all, though; Melanie loves being pampered, since she’s a feline, and is used to such things due to her upbringing; consistently nagging others into giving her such luxuries; or just getting Arthur to do all the work.
Moves:
Freshman Moves:
Lightning Fang: One of the typical moves of the Shinx family. Channelling electricity though her saliva Melanie bites into her foes while shocking them with her electrified saliva.
Charge: Melanie charges electricity into her body, drawing it in from her surroundings. This move drains electricity from anything nearby, whether it be allies, electronics, cables, or nerve electricity; leaving Melanie crackling with arcs of electricity.
Discharge: Melanie sends out a burst of spreading electricity which trails along any conductive surfaces, shocking foes along the way. This move acts essentially as the opposite of Charge, allowing Melanie to recharge electronics or similarly electric-type allies.
Roar: Melanie lets out a feral roar, a link to her ancestry as a Luxray. The roar usually sends enemies fleeing instinctively due to subconscious recognition of the sound. It doesn’t always work, though, as most pokemon can suppress these instincts, although it takes effort.
Sophomore Moves:
Thunderbolt: With this move Melanie can summon volatile bolts of lightning from her hands, frying enemies with their explosive energy build-up. These bolts, while explosively overcharged and thus extremely dangerous are very inaccurate, and use a lot of energy to expend. They’re also very dangerous due to their high voltage, and can short-out electric equipment or ignite fuels.
Charge Beam: While not as devastating as Thunderbolt this move serves the same general purpose that Thunderbolt does for Melanie, acting as a less powerful but far more accurate counterpart. With it she fires thin lines of electricity, which last a few moments before dissipating, allowing her to entrap opponents, although only for a short time. These beams aren’t very powerful if they don’t hit directly though, only giving a short shock.
Thunder Wave: Melanie tosses a strange electric ‘web’ of sorts which whips around the foe, entangling them and in turn restraining them with its consistent stinging shocks brought on by contact with the purely electric material. While the cords of electricity are rather constricting the electricity that it is made of isn’t strong enough to really burn enemies, though it’ll definitely distract them; and the web is reasonably fragile compared to actual spider-pokemorphs’ webs.
Return: Arthur and Melanie’s relationship is, whilst most don’t believe it, quite close, with Melanie being just as dependent on her rodent servant’s servitude as he is dependent on Melanie’s orders. This move emerged from that relationship, and can only be unleashed when the two are working together, or when the situation one is in is somehow related to the other. Neither of the duo actually know what this move is, as it seems unique to them. Despite her predominantly singular fighting style with this move she needs Arthur about; turning the boy into a spear of lightning and tossing the electric pole-arm into her enemy via a javelin toss of sorts.
Junior Moves:
Superpower: While Melanie generally relies on her lightning to survive, she has recently started training in conventional lightning styles. Melanie has taken a particular liking to various Martial Arts styles, specifically Tae Kwon Do and Judo; Tae Kwon Do due to it’s emphasis on kicks, which are one of her strong points due to her height and strength, and Judo because of it’s amount of submission moves. With this move she simply powers her body up with her electricity to make her basic fighting moves far more powerful, allowing her to command as much power in her basic fighting as in her moves.
Takedown: This is one of Melanie’s favourite moves, but is also one she has only recently started using in proper fights. It is simply a fierce pounce, a technique she is naturally skilled with due to her species’ predatory nature. She usually makes sure to take the precaution of stalking her ‘prey’ first, so that she is able to connect perfectly with the pounce.
Frustration: Melanie is generally quite calm, but when someone starts insulting her looks or her heritage she is quick to lose her temper. When she loses her temper her primal side is unleashed, sending her tearing into her victim with claws and fangs.
Wild Bolt: A sort of controlled version of Melanie’s raging attack. Melanie charges straight into her enemies on all fours, electrifying her body then slamming straight into them with crushing force. After slamming into them she pounces onto their usually prone body, continuing her onslaught with her more conventional moves. Not that you can really get more conventional than a charging tackle…
Appearance:
Melanie is very slim, very athletically built; but not overly thin to the point of looking anorexic. She isn’t very ‘curvy’ like many of the other girls, which works well in fights, but makes her a little jealous of the attention other girls receive. In fact she’s flat-chested, a fact she is very sensitive about. She generally wears black jeans and a black tank-top, along with a pair of black biker’s gloves. Otherwise notable is the tribal tattoo she proudly displays on her right shoulder.
Team and Relationships:
Melanie tends to be somewhat cold to new people, so even after three years in the academy she still doesn’t have too many friends. Her closest ‘friend’ is obviously Arthur, whom she’s almost always around. Melanie enjoys teasing or often even abusing her ‘best friend’, mainly referring to their ‘cat and mouse’ relationship species-wise, which clearly keeps Arthur in his place… not that he’s really made any attempt to rebel, admittedly.
Now that she’s a member of Team Roadbuster Melanie has been having quite a lot of trouble getting along with her team members, since she’s used to having people around her who are simply there to serve her, rather than having to get her own hands dirty for anyone apart from herself. Whilst she doesn’t particularly mind Maria; as she respects the girl’s strength; she chastises Ruka quite a lot since the overweight were shunned in her society; plus the fact that she doesn’t think much of the girl’s tendency to swear or be overly casual in general. Not to mention her irritation at the girl’s respect and attention towards Arthur, of course; Melanie believes she should be the centre of attention thanks to her status and membership in the team; rather than having her servant get all the love.
She is currently in a relationship with Lyra, a Houndour girl who shares her liking for battling and somewhat snarky attitude; although the two mainly base their relationship on Melanie’s lust to be somehow submissive; a position she is too afraid to exemplify to anyone else; with Lyra being more than happy to push around the girl seeing as the Luxray doesn’t mind too much.
