Another shot of the totally awesome Tiffany's Arcade in 1982. Don't YOU wish you were there? I took the picture with my Kodak Disc camera. Radical!

To bad, Cirrus. You missed out then ;)
Cashewlou, did you rock the arcade back then, too? I loved those times. The Arcade was like my first home, because my actual first home totally sucked. I spaced school all day until the magic bell rang, then rushed over and plugged all my money into those wonderful boxes of joy.

Dude, I LIVED in the arcade in the early 80's, especially on the weekends. There was an arcade called Zap near the Iowa State campus in Ames, and my friends and I would go there every chance we got. I was awesome at Asteroids and Tempest, I hated the ridiculing dog in Duck Hunt, and loved the animation but hated the impossibly hard-to-play Dragon's Lair. Oh, and I was pretty good at Ms. Pac-Man, too. :)
You are my hero, Lou. FLASHBACK!! Ms. Pac-Man was the ultimate. My first game I can remember (besides Pong) was called Tail Gunner. Totally rad! Some dude at my local arcade (Sharky's) would charge a dollar to tell you the directions while you played Dragon's Lair. That guy was brilliant! "Up...left...right...sword...right..." CHA-CHING!
I would say in fairness, being someone born in '83 - that was perfect for me. It primed me into the Nintendo fanboi I've more or less been since my younger years. XD I would always miss going to Showbiz Pizza (before Chuck E' Cheese), say, or Celebration Station... But it was so much cheaper to rent and beat games en masse. XD And get four free bags of popcorn to boot!
But the pics surprise me - I was still in my moms tummy when these pics were taken. XD How old were you when you took these photos?

I still have a film disc that hadn't been processed. I wonder what oddities lie in it? Maybe more arcade photos! They were pretty cool, and I'll have to go looking for it just for fun (pretty sure it's still around). It would be kind of a fun relic, like having an 8-track player; kind of a pop culture history item :)
When I was that age I spent many family vacations in New England, I think it was Vermont at a place called the Rogers Motel . They had this entire building dedicated to arcade games and kids from all over Canada/US spent all their time there.
Funny I still remember the name of the place even though it was close to 25 years ago.
Wonder if you can still get film in that format processed.

How could anyone forget a cool place like that? You are lucky!
The Heaven of All Arcades was Disneyland's STARCADE back in the 80's. Two floors packed with everything including pinball tables galore. *sigh* AND the entrance is right outside of Space Mountain. I went one year when it was jammed with Dragon's Lair machines. It's still there, but most of the space is just another souvenir shop or ski-ball type skill games.
It would be fun to find out if someplace could process it. Maybe Kodak could tell me...

Oh gosh, pinball machines *swoon* Those were always my favorite, lol. Looking back I have no idea why I spent so much time and quarters on games like spy hunter
I remember when the guy came out to empty the machines, he gave everyone free credits to anyone using the machine he had to empty. Ah good times.

'Cause Spy Hunter ruled, that's why! Oh man, I loved that one. Being friends with the arcade workers was always a good idea ;) That's so cool! I miss those days a lot.
One thing I've always pondered is what the combined pile of coins I spent on all the arcade games over the years would look like...*pictures Scrooge McDuck's money vault*

RADNESS! YCDTOTV was in a weird way very memorable. "I don't know..." *SLIME!* If you want to see the dorkiest videogame movie of all time, watch "Joysticks". It maybe #1 on my favorite mega-cheesey movie list (and I like those for some odd reason). I want to make fan art of "King Vidiot"--the punk gang leader of the arcade. It's totally awesome! And probably cooler that 4 people in the world know about this film.
Definately see North Shore. Life will go on if you skip Joysticks, though. It's so bad that it's good, then bad again, then incredible. North Shore, however, is rippin'. My life wouldn't be the same without it. Plus sexeh Laird Hamilton is in it donning glorious 80's radness.
I used to hang out in the arcades and bring rolls of quarters with me. (Very convenient!) I played a lot of pinball, multiplayer kick-n-punch games (TMNT, The Simpsons, etc.), and those silly redemption games where you'd spend 10 bucks to get enough tickets to trade for a 5-cent balsa wood glider. :)
Arcades are just about as dead as the dodo. It's unfortunate, because nothing really replicates the atmosphere. Movie theaters are probably going away in the reasonably near future, but those I won't personally miss; too many patrons are noisy and rude during movies these days. But arcades are supposed to be on the loud side and the cacophony contributes to the atmosphere. Can't really duplicate that in your house on an XBox! Nor can you replicate a pinball machine using any other technology.
Our local arcade chains were Time Out and Station Break, but going way back to the limits of my memories, we also had Gadgets, which was Looney Tunes themed.
Your above comment about the Disneyland Starcade reminded of the enormous arcade in the basement of the Contemporary hotel at Disney World. (I still have yet to visit Disneyland.) Unfortunately, they had taken most of it out by the time I last visited in 1991, but in 1987, they had also had a huge shooting gallery down there, which I also really miss!
Fun times, that unfortunately shall never come again! Thanks for posting and taking me back. :)
P.S. You're 8 years older than I am. Ha ha! </nelson> ;)

I love it! 8 years?! *grabs the cane and shakes old-man fist at you* This is my last year in the third decade, so Imma try and make it one to remember.
Thanks sharing your wonderful memories, Kuma-kun (I'm older so I can use 'kun' on you!!) Wow, I would have LIVED in 'Gadgets'! A looney Tunes-themed arcade you say? Sounds like paradise...if you know anyone with a time-machine, take me there *puts on Daffy fursuit and grabs the piggy bank* Leth go, Thoba!
