I do believe dreams happen in real time, and if you immediately go to sleep after waking from a dream the dream actually continues right away, so I might actually expect the amount of time to be less than 20 minutes. I've had this quite often, where I sleep, dream, and wake up like 20 minutes later; but in these situations my dreams were actually quite long despite only being 20 between sleeping and waking.
