Originally designed to be a cheaper alternative to the TIE Interceptor, the TIE Ring evolved into an alternative to the TIE/in which possessed more firepower for the the same speed and maneuverability. The TIE Ring Prototype would feature the classic TIE/ln's twin laser cannons mounted underneath the cockpit while the production model lacked that feature in exchange fore a more spacious cockpit with life support features and a rotating cockpit section. The TIE Ring still lacked a hyperdrive and shields like the standard TIE/ln and TIE/in, however it had a superior field of view for the pilot to gaze out of.
