Okay so Here's what Happened. I was working in the drive through tonight when a guy comes in. Hands me a 20 and some change. Which was suppose to be 7 cents. One penny, one nickel and THIS.
Being the coin collector I am I always tend to spot things like this. The oldest coin prior to this was a 1905 buffalo nickel. The writing on this sucker makes me wonder if this coin predates the bible. O.o. I've been dinging around the internet for the better half of 3 hours and can't find anything about this thing. about the size of a penny. But weights a lot more. Its either lead or silver. Making a distinct high ping sound when dropped against a hard surface. Making me think its silver or silver alloy.
The Front of the count is what I think is a olive branch and the letter Tibe Ploy(Or Pioy) and the back looks like a playstation cheat code. Letters and triangles and what not. Its their a chance anyone could help me figure this one out.

Yeah, probably Greek on that coin, which means the only modern nations it could have originated from are Cyprus and Greece. The Cypriot pound doesn't look like that, and the modern Greek drachma doesn't contain a coin like that, but being made of silver would tend to mean an older build anyway. All Euros are very distinct so the Greek and Cypriot Euros are also out. There are also some variants of Cyrillic to be found amongst some of the Balkan languages like Macedonian and Bulgarian that may include another letter or two, but I still think it's probably Greek.
Also, just like old Cyrillic numerals, old Greek numerals were just letters with number assigned to them, based on their order in the alphabet. (but I really don't know when that ended) Just mentioning that to give you more things to consider in figuring this out, those letters on the front could be numbers.

It's archaic Greek. I don't have a Greek dictionary that has the words in them, but I can warrant a guess for some. It looks like the words on the front, "ΤΙΒΕ ΡΙΟΥ" are a name. The Greek letters translate to "TIVE RIO." I'm thinking that "RIO" might be a variant of"roy," for some sort of official.
ΤΡΑΡΓ = TRARG
ΗΡΩ = IRO
ΔΟΥ = DOY
ΔΟΥΤΕ = DOUTE
Might be enough of a clue to help someone who knows a bit more about the subject than I do.

It's a little hard to make out the the lettering in the photos but certainly one or two characters look more Cyrillic than greek; it's definitely not in the style of any ancient Greco-Roman coin I've studied and the minting seems a bit too regular for it to be ancient; but you never know. :)
The back is in Greek, and says Herod the Tetrarch (ΗΡΩΔΟΥ ΤΕΤΡΑΡΓ) which would refer to a first century king of Galilee Herod Antipas. The writing is anachronistic though, coins of the period would instead have written Herod the Tetrarch as ΗΡωΔΌΎ ΤΕΤΡΆΡΧΌΎ so I'm not entirely sure where this coin might be from. Very neat regardless.
ok may have some good news for you. dont get your hopes up to hi though.
The coin looks like its from 39AD. Herod Antipas in the galilee area. have posted links below.

The front took me a minute, because I kept trying to read it as two words, again it's in Greek, and says Tiberias (ΤΙΒΕΡΙΆC) which was a town in Galilee that minted many coins of the period Herod Antipas ruled. Again though, this coin seems far too clean and new to actually be from the first century.
hmm ok now the bad news.

could very well be a fake. apparently this type of coin is extremely rare and to have one in the condition, even more rare.
i would however get to your nearest museum and have an expert take a look.
