I think what the protagonist is saying here has to do with the fact that he once almost drowned under some rubble, which was shown in previous pages. And taking into account what his friend says about the trauma of the first one, I'm inclined to think that it has to do with what the protagonist is saying, which is interesting.

To be fair... a lot of Psych Students are pretty kooky themselves. So, studying someone doesn't mean the subject is kooky as well. In fact, they may be fairly normal, or just a bit abnormal, while the psych student is far more off the norm.

One hopes that Psychology has its Galileo or Newton fairly soon, assuming they don't get thrown out of academia for being politically incorrect. At least we've stopped doing a lot of the more ineffective and even barbaric "treatments" of the past, or phasing them out for stuff that works. Nobody wants a shrink who makes your mental health worse rather than better.
