When I see a crying Tails In think about how Fiona Fox broke his heart twice in the Archie Comics.
First time they met she turned out to be a robotic duplicate.
He meets the real one and she blows him off cause she wants Sonic instead.
Sonic of course isn't interested, so instead of giving Tails a chance she instead decided to turn evil to date Sonic's sociopathic abusive evil double from another dimension Scourge.

I can imagine a scenario where Tails is forced to leave his world after it’s destroyed, killing Sonic and his friends in the process and leaving him as the only survivor. After sometime, Tails ends up in the Lylat System where he’s found by the Star Fox team. As Tails is introduced to the team, he meets Krystal who understands what he went through after losing her home world, Cerenia. After bonding with Tails, Krystal decides to adopt Tails as her son so he wouldn’t have to be alone anymore.

My guess is that this is based on Miles ‘Tails’ Prower’s early life, when he was bullied by other foxes for having two tails. At least Krystal tried to comfort him, telling him that his tails has a special ability that could fly like a helicopter.
