Visited Trinket today after and despite lousy summer weather and a personally busy fall took only about 20-30min to get her into a loose halter for the first time made for full grown horses didn't want to us the pony one on, thought it would feel too constricting first time out. I was alone, in the paddock not the round ring and used pieces of carrot to encourage her and of course the usual calm talk to let her know the halter was nothing scary or to be apprehensive about. Ensured the buckle made some chiming noises and yerp she was more than curious about what it was I was about to do to her. Slipped it gently around her face and with a little hug before she could panic or shy buckled it behind her ears. she gave me a look of "WTF is this all about?" then stood still deciding whether or not this thing on her face was dangerous or if she even wanted it on her face. Gave her a pat and scritch on the neck then moved to put my arms and head over her and leaned on her back as I had done on other occasions. She didn't pay much attention to me but as soon as I lifted my feet off of the ground she decided I had gone quite far enough moved quickly and before she could buck I let my self off and let her be for a few min. Sat on the manger watched and waited to see how she felt about the things I had done. It didn't take her long to come back over to me for attention. this was a great day for me. Loren said he wanted me to start saddling a big Belgium stallion this week and next week to get him ready to put with a testy stud who is on the edge and untrained in the hopes a trained stallion will put some sense into him because he has already hurt a valued mount and we can't afford for him to hurt others.
