Designed for use on worlds with heavy winter conditions where the typical TIE would be blown away or would freeze over in the conditions, the TIE Polar was in service for many years and would survive the fall of the Empire. Many of there craft would actually be retained by the New Republic as they were geared for long term operations of frigid worlds, the craft had a highly effective heater and space for a multitude of supplies for long duration missions or for if the pilot had to ditch. The turret mounted on top of the main body played host to a rotating multi-spectrum scanner and photoreceptor to keep a watchful eye of the surroundings while the pilot keep their attention focused on piloting, although the TIE Polar had the classic twin laser cannons they were more intended to destroy obstacles and wildlife than actual targets.
