Racing broom concpet from my book.
Brief History of the Formula Broom Racing League.
The formula Broom Racing League was founded in the year 1900 when Sofia Rossi brought together 40 of the fastest broom racers from around the world to Bolshevik Island. Olivia Wilson took First place, Lola Herrera took Second, and Francois Pierre took Third. These men and women started what would be regarded as the greatest race in history. Today the races are held in a multitude of abandoned locations that humans are not allowed so that Underworld activities and beings are not revealed to humans. Locations such as Battleship Island in Japan, and Temple Island off the coast of Ireland just to name a few locations. The Formula Broom Racing League is the most dangerous form of racing in the world. This mixture of danger and speed caused these men and women to be treated like gods by the fan base leaving no one above them. There are two classifications in the League, the Specification Class ( Spec-Class ) and Open Class. Specification Class racing brooms are designed to a specific set of rules and limitations. Spec-Class brooms look like the standard broom you would see or hear about in any movie or fairy tale for example the nimbus 2000 in harry potter. The Spec-Class was considered to be the proper men and womens form of broom racing and was the pinnacle of performance all over the world, but in the 1950’s it all changed when the Open Class was introduced. With no limit to what one could do to a broom, it completely changed what was thought possible. The King and Queen companies scrambled to create the fastest racing brooms. This creating a bloody rivalry between the Two fastest companies, Fujin and Wyvern. A rivalry that brought forth the rise, fall, and some times death of the worlds greatest Pilots. For two years Fujin and Wyvern were the epitome of the Open Class until some boys and girls from the great unwashed brought a few game changers from their garages at home. More intense Magick and enchantments were used to increase the speeds of their brooms, magickal barriers were created to move the oncoming air around the Pilot in an aerodynamic path to keep him or her from being pulled off and increase speeds. Then they added more ergonomic hand controls, aero bodies that use small wings which work in tandem with enchantments to make the broom more responsive in turning and maneuvering along with fins for stability. The brooms of today are so fast and turn so hard sometimes the Pilots have to be taken off the broom and assisted back to their hangers to allow their body and muscles to repair. The broom you see in the photo is considered to be the fastest racing broom to ever be built. Named Anti-Matter, it was designed and built by Daniel Externus and Marlene Hellington. Built in the 1960’s with additions added through out the decades to strengthen its design. Piloted by Marlene, the only time this broom was ever beaten was when it was crashed due to pilot error. No one knows why this broom is so fast and why it handles so well. There have been a few times it was close to being beaten, and I mean damn close. The closest some one came to beating it, the gap in time was two millionths of a second, that is a physical gap that is smaller than a single strand of thin hair. After Four near death experiences and Two coma's, Marlene announced her retirement a few months ago and the monster was caged allowing a new champion to reign over the Formula Broom Racing League.
