I watched the video. I think that was staged.

You've got a stronger stomach than I. I just read the news report, and, well.

My reasons:

1. If you're male, and someone talks shit about your significant other, your first reaction is a closed-fist punch. Not an open-handed slap.
2. Smith made no attempt at all not to telegraph what he was about to do. I've seen fights break out, and you try to get the first lick in hard and fast to forestall attempts at a riposte.
3. If you look closely, I think Rock's head was in motion before Smith's hand made contact.
