A little bit of insight as a late diagnosed Autistic Woman

I've had nonverbal moments since I was a kid but being diagnosed with Autism in late 2021 was a huge deal for me. It put a name and logic to a lot of those mysterious feelings. Going nonverbal, maladaptive daydreaming and freezing are still huge struggles for me as an adult. I’m lucky to have found a partner in my life that not only understands but can relate to me and my struggles as they have ADHD. It has helped me build a strong support system and after close to 17 years of therapy, mental health evaluations and medication I finally got a diagnosis that actually made sense. It’s still not easy, it never will be. However, it’s a lot more comforting and less damaging to my health knowing what’s going on. It’s hard for me to share stuff relating to this, because I don’t like being personal. However struggling until I was 24, always feeling broken or like something was wrong with me almost took my life multiple times. I’m happier than I’ve ever been, and all I needed was a little support.
