Imagine a snake just holding its prey there for a while, using that good control over their throat muscles to keep them in place with only their head outside the mouth; then after some tiem has passed just slowly swallowing them down - a good pause between each swallow which only takes them a tiny bit deeper each time. Just dragging out the process for the fun of it and being all dramatic for no reason other than because they can.
