Time for a weird linguistic tangent from Amethystine! [sorry I have to]
I always assumed it was 'baited', but it's 'bated', which is to do with 'abated'.
To abate is to stop, and you're waiting with your breath held, so it's bated. The inverse is when people say 'don't hold your breath'.
Practically, the point was this: You would say to your friend 'oh keep telling me your story, I'm waiting with bated breath' meaning you were waiting, not breathing, and/or not talking, not using breath to speak, lest you would interrupt their tale.
~
Unless of course you mean something like your breath smells like what some animal you're trying to lure to you wants to eat. :}===<

Do you mean that the protagonist doesn't need to be asleep to be able to talk to that titan to begin with? That is cool. Also, I think that what the protagonist is saying to that titan is related to the answer that his friend told him about his problem; that interesting. And to finish, I must say that I am very curious to know what that titan is going to say to the protagonist; good page by the way.
