There are times when your muses are SO numerous, you'd prefer to be alone (not to mention what kind of muses haunt me...) !!!!
Surrounding the Squeetah are 42 of the films, series, artists that inspired me the most for my drawings (so films like Brazil I worship at the highest point are not included as they don't directly) since my childhood - only SF, fantasy or anticipation-related -, will you be able to recognize at least 1/3d of them ? Some of them are REALLY hard to, because they are not known for some reasons, or known only in some countries, or I just drew a symbol for them...
Here are the references, from bottom left :
1/ Terror Dog from Ghostbuster
2/ Spiral from Twilight Zone
3/ Robby from Forbidden Planet (amongst other appearances)
4/ Flying saucer from The Invaders
5/ Thunderbird 2 cargo plane

19/ T-800 endoskeletton

Well, all depends about the word "awesome"... Personnally (and that's the first criticism made to this too much underestimated film), I find the actor play DISASTROUS for almost all characters, some situations are just crazy, unbelievable, ot simply funny (in the bad way), you even see the wires in most shots of the robots, and of course, it's a failed answer from Disney to Star Wars (the sentry/stormtroopers, Vincent+BOB/R2D2+C3PO, Maximillian/Dr Reinhardt/Darth Vader, the props like the laser guns...)... But the designs, and the atmosphere... I NEVER saw a more beautiful ship than the Cygnus, and it was WONDERFULLY filmed (for example at the beginning, all dark and lifeless), Maximillian is an old design but I find it is still creepy (in the good way), the design of the laser gun was pure genius (and never seen again as far as I know), the music from John Barry is one of the most powerful ever heard... And you should have heard Reinhardt with a german accent in the french version, he is just FANTASTIC !!!! So yes, despite (and perhaps also BECAUSE) all those problems, The Black Hole is one of my favourite films, one of those that still inspires me the most.
I agree, the atmosphere of that movie is unforgettable. That depiction of hell at the end of the film especially was one of those scenes that haunted my memory, and spurred my love of wondrous landscapes. It probably would have made a better book than movie in that regard.
(From just above the artist sig, working my way around.)
The beam emiter from 'War of the Worlds'
T-101 battal chassy from the Terminator series.
ED-something or other, from Robocop series.
Tim Currys charictor from 'Legend'
To the Artists left is a Skexsies from 'The Black Crystal'
Moving furtehr we see an Xenomorphic Alien creature from some odd movie, heard a few people saw it.
Above that is Darth Vader.
Above Vader and the wiered eyless guy is Briarios from 'Appleseed'.
further over to the Artists apparent left is the head creature from 'John Carpenters The Thing'
Below that is a colection of helmets, including one from Robotec, Iron Man, and Star Wars.
The Iron Man one has a light cycle from some Disney film jumping off of it. 'Tron' I think.
Past the bird and some crab looking thing is the robot from 'Forbiden Planet', a Sci-Fi version of shakespears 'The Tempest'.
And that is all I can think of. Feel free to use this as a jumping board. Or not.

I was under the impression that it was the model number that was to be used, as there was no outer coveirng on it at the time, which was largly what the series number was refering to.
I thank you for ED's series number, I though I had it but did not put anything down because I was not sure. And now it seems I was off by 300...
(Not a movie reference.)
Of course it was from Alien, Aliens, Aliens 3, and Alien resurection. But it would have been less fun to come right out and say I knew the title, I wanted to see how many would try to corect me on it before I got home. Just one?

To the first one, true, it was never said in the movies what series Terminator he was, just the model number. However, after having done some research on the web (hey, I got bored one evening), I discovered that they did have series numbers (i.e. the T-600s Michael Bien mentioned in the first movies, the ones with rubber skin, and the T-1000 mentioned in the second movie), I learned that the one in between, the main one, was an 800 series.
To the last one. And yeah, just one that looks that particular. James Cameron or Stan Lee wanted to do something different with the Alien and thus took off the smooth crest atop it's head. Of course, to the orginal one, there was actually a human skull used for the "face" of it. They did away with that idea and redone that part.

Terminator: series number is stated in all three movies, Model number is stated somewhere in the first one, I think. Could be wrong, have been before.
Aliens: Yup, human skull, cut up with a scroll saw and glued back together into a shape more pleasing the costume designer.

Hoo boy. Lets see...
Big ol' Tim Curry from Legend, Max from The Black Hole, a Skeksis from The Dark Crystal, Alien, Robbie from Twilight Zone (he was also in Forbidden Planet of course, Terminator, Darth V. of course, War of the Worlds gun thingy, Brieros from Appleseed, ED-209 from Robocop, Lobo, Ironman, some Mobius guy near Lobo, umm... I think that's Draco from Dragonheart in the back...
No idea what the shrimpy thing is or the bug dude on the right but he looks familiar from your art.

Almost no error except the "Mobius guy" - but somehow close to that, and the dragon that's not the one in Dragon Heart (which was too much "anthropomorphicized" to my taste).
As for the bug dude, you are indeed right, it does appear in a close form elsewhere in my galleries... ;)

the terminator, ED-209 (?), prince of darkness from legend, draco, the harphy from the last unicorn OR a skeksis from the dark crystal, a warrior alien from the alien movies, jurassic park rex (?) one of the alien offspring from the thing, vader, appleseed suit, jin roh, lobo, one of the terror dogs from ghostbusters, lobster monster from deep star six (?), iron man (?), little tron bike thingie... kamen rider! good taste ye have anyways.
Merci Debbie !! ^^
Merchi encore ^^ ^^ ^^

Wow, what an amazing work.
Hmm, I think I know 19 or 20 of these characters. But I can't remember all the names...
And Robby, the robot - I knew him from the Forbidden Planet, Twilight Zone and Columbo.
But the filmography in imdb lists more than 20 films/series

This is an outstanding tribute piece!
Haven't read through everything, know that most of these are popular enough to have already been gotten (Darth Vader? c'mon...), but let's see...
ED-209 from the first 'Robocop' movie,
Is the dragon in the back left Vermithrax from 'Dragonslayer'?...Nobody remembers Vermithrax...
Unsure...
A T. Rex...Could be from lots of places, 'Jurassic Park'? 'Land That Time Forgot'? As old as some of this other stuff is, maybe 'Land of the Lost'?
A Terminator (looks more like the one in the 'Terminator 2' opening than the original movie?),
1953 'The War of the Worlds' heat ray projector,
Darkness from 'Legend' (played by Tim Curry,
unsure of the powered armor...
Maximillian from 'The Black Hole',
A skeksis (looks like Skeksil the Chamberlain?) from 'The Dark Crystal',
Alien (a la Giger) from 'Alien',
Darth Vader from the various 'Star Wars' movies,
Unsure of the fellow with his hand on Darth and the Kerberos suit's head...
Briareos from Shirow's 'Appleseed'
Looks like the Akai Megane Kerberos armor from 'Jin Roh'.
A few more I don't know...
Lobo from the comic of the same name,
Norris' Head from Carpenter's 'The Thing'
Robby the Robot (lots of reuses but most notably 'Forbidden Planet)'holding a flying saucer from 'The Invaders', beneath/behind the flying saucer looks like it might be Thunderbird 2 from 'Thunderbirds are Go',
Lower left is definitely one of the 'Ghostbusters' devil dogs.
The two helmets in the lower right look like possibly Aura Battler Dunbine? and a helmet from...Argh, I forget the correct name but in America it was released abominably as something called 'G-Force'. 'Gatchaman'?
Fourth helmet from the right definitely looks to be an Iron Man helmet.
All the helmets look familiar, but darnit, I just can't place'em...

--> "Surrounding the Squeetah are 42 of the films, series, artists "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Keep_%28film%29

Ain't no way in Hell I'm gonna try to guess all of them; my memory's not that good. Still, this is a truly jaw-dropping picture. The fact that you were able to work all these characters into the same picture, as well as making all of them so recognizable... I can't think of an adjective BIG enough to describe it! Scrumtrulescent?
I particularly like how you drew Darkness, in that it not only looks like him, but that expression is pure Tim Curry. Kudos on your uncanny realism.
Li'l tiny Lightcycle makes me happy!

Is it Lusifer from Legends, can't quite make out who's next to him though, looks like one of those Battle Tech Mechs., Darth Vader, The CPU guy from Tron?, a Jin-Ron solider, Lobo, Guyver, Alien warrior, a Sketsie from Dark Crystal, a T-1000 Terminator, Robby the Robot, I want to say a chocobo, 80's Iron Man, Rick Folkers Robotech helmet, a Tron cylce, Vermithrax
1953 'The War of the Worlds' alien thing, 'The Thing', flying saucer from 'The Invaders',isn't that the old puppet THunderbirds ship?, that demon thing from Ghostbusters, Oh, it that clear guy a Micronaught?, That one helmet reminds me of Captain Power and the other a G-Force helmet.
Well, that's all I got, but I know wone thing, it's a kick ass picture. Damn.

Cocopetal is parrot from the Cities of Gold, depicted in the bottom center of the drawing. It was based on an English novel entitled "The King's Fifth", was produced by the French, and was animated by the Japanese. It story took place during the 16th century in Spanish Colonial America and even included real historical figures such as Franco Pissaro. It was a but unusual for it's time since each episode continued from the episode before it.
It originally aired in France in 1981, but didn't air in the US until the mid to late 80's on Nickelodeon. It was a fun show filled with adventure. The twist of the show was the constant discovery of ancient high technology from lost civilizations, such as the solar powered Flying Golden Condor. Basically, it was filled with Atlantis type stuff.
The show was a blast and I remember it fondly.

Aaaah, OK, I didn't know his name in english, that's why I was surprised - here in france, he was called "Pitchou" (like in "Machu Picchu"). Thankss for your historic, I understand now why so many people recognized him although I thought it went totally unnoticed in America - in France it was one of the biggest success ever, most people of my generation know this serie. Along with Robotech (Macross and Mospeada series above all), it is still one of my top 5 series ever...
Just incredible work! I can name about 25 of them so far including Thunderbird 1 and Smaug. I'm pretty sure that that's the swirly symbol-thing from the Twighlight Zone and not the entrance to The Time Tunnel cuz it's angled to the side. The first helmet under the Chokobo looks like it's from the British "UFO" series, which they men on Moonbase wore ..or maybe the aliens.
At any rate - this is a great piece and is perfect for something for fans to do online - all trying to solve a puzzle like this. :) My congratulations on themost interesting, involing piece of artwork I have yet seen.

You really should've try...
Anyway, OK for TDB, but that's NOT Smaug !!!!
As for the TZ symbol, BRAVO !!!! I am surprised to see it was recognized quite a few times, I didn't think it could, and as far as I remember, nobody confound it with the time tunnel, contrary to what I thought...
Thank you !!! ^^ ^^

Smearing ? I am not sure I really understand the meaning of the term in this sentence, but as you can see in the creadits, the whole pic took me eight days to complete, I had the time to think about the position, size of every character and concentrated my attention to a few ones each time, and for a long period. Each one got his own place, I mean I already had their place "in perspective" in mind, their respective distance to the foreground, although the watcher see them in 2D only. Anyway, if you look closely, you can see there are a few "bugs", for example between Vertmithrax and ED-209, but also between the Kerberos and Darth Vader... ^^'''
Also, I dont't know if that answers your question, but the thickness and darkness of the inked lines is something very important not only to be able to differenciate a character from another, but also to give a sense of perspective. look closely to the characters (take for rxample the Price of Darkness or Maximilian) : their outlines are far darker and thicker than the lines of the "internal" details. Apart from that, there are other tricks, like having a character bright while the background is dark (or the contrary)...
Please forgive me for this VERY late reply O_O I is such a bad puppeh.
But oh wow....I thought it was done in pencil/graphite. I'm always smearing my work unintentionally.
It's amazing what you do with pen...I can't believe it's not pencil. All that precision!
Out of curiosity, what is your background in art? Have you always been drawing? Any particular influences or stories to tell? ^_^ *sits down, tail wagging*

LOL excuse me also, I talked to you like a professor to a student, but I didn't really realized then it was you, you're more skilled than me and if somebody would have to give lessons, that would be YOU to me !!! ^^''''''
I haven't been studying art at all, but I have been practising longer than I can remember, that means more than 30 years (I use to say that when I was born, the pencil came first). I've above all been infuenced by sci-fi (films and animation), and that is the vast majority of my works. I encountered the furry world in 2002 only (through the yahoo groups, it was a group about the pizza cats), in a period when following a heartbreak three years before, I have been left with no more will to draw anything, something that never happened to me (I always drew at least one rough per day). I always created my own characters before, but since that date, that's the (almost) total opposite, I only draw copyrighted characters. You've been able to see some old works of mine here and there in my galleries, you can measure all the changes that happened...
So although I don't consider myself furry at all, I appreciate the fact that the furry world was the element that threw me out of my depressive state regarding drawings.
This is a condensed story of my art life :)

Jeez, don't think I've ever noticed a pic with 200 comments=p That's half of what I got on my page all together. Anyways, nice collage. I did recognize a lot of the characters, but there were quite a few that I hadn't seen before. I like the Lord of Darkness from Legend. I've seen two versions of the movie, and the darker one with less dialogue is the best. I still watch it from time to time just for the awesome Dark Lord Character.
I answer every comment on my page as well. Chatting is one of the main reasons I hang around FA. Still, 100/100 is a lot of dialogue=p Guess you're art is just that good.
As for Legend, I watched the DVD, but I have a tape of the movie that is much different. I prefer the taped version more. The DVD did have some additional footage that the tape didn't. At least the music in the tape version is bearable=D

My goodness, this is an amazing drawing! I am happy to see so many familiar icons in your picture, and some I have never heard of. But what impresses me most is to see that ED-209 made it in! He is my favorite movie robot of all time! Yes, he has problems walking down stairs, has problems listening...and is a little overly destructive, but otherwise, he is a great robot and wonderfully engineered!
Two words sum up this picture: BAD ASS.
I know it's not my typical over-amped lexicon. But I think BAD ASS quite nicely expresses exactly what I want to say when I see this piece.
This has to be the most masculine, testosterone-appreciated piece I've seen in ages. xD
It's got everything that guys love and... what can I say... this is art! So... I repeat... BAD ASS.

OMG Lobo is glaring at Kenshiro! Clash of the Titans! Hokuto Shinken vs. improvised and self taught Czarnian brawling!
This crossover would be so epic that Keith Giffen would have to kill Lobo again before he becomes a pansy again.
Nice group picture BTW, I can actually recognize some characters without reading the description.
I'm surprised that there's no reference to Captain Harlock anywhere.

Eh, I think also Lobo vs Ken would be EPIC, with the most primal definition of that term !!!!!
As for Harlock,, it certainly was a (good) shock, but it did not inspire me the way Captain Future or Grendizer did at the same time, for example. That is why I did not include any reference, though both versions of the Arcadia will always got a special place in my heart of course.
