A few concept doodles for a new project, Thirty-Seven Pictures of a Cat, that I've been bouncing around in my headspace. I had an idea for a short comic last night, and it hit my emotions like a truck -- I couldn't stop sobbing.
The only April Fools joke to be found here is that there is no joke!
I'm genuinely considering trying to juggle a second, much smaller project along with my lifelong goal of finishing TCotC. Thirty-Seven Pictures of a Cat would be a very very short project in comparison to my life's work, but it's something completely different that I've never tried before: unlike my other works, it's got nothing to do with Egypt, Egyptian mythology, or fantasy creatures/settings. It's a little on the mundane side, but it would have just as much heart to it as TCotC.
It's still in the planning phases at the moment, but I hope if I do go through with making this idea that it'll help me grow better at making comics in general (thereby benefitting TCotC in the end).
Thirty-Seven is one of those cliché stories where a house pet (the little black cat above, "Kitty" for now) gets lost and has to find his way back home... but with a twist: Kitty is a ghost. Overall, it would be a family-friendly tale about coping with death, grieving, and loss with a lighthearted and hopeful spin on things (mostly the cat being silly and cute, but also a greater message of love and memory). Kitty in particular is actually based on one of my childhood pets -- my own black cat who passed away on August 27th, 2020... So it's an idea that's very dear to my heart (and probably the reason I couldn't stop sobbing about the idea).
TCotC is always going to come first, but now I officially have something easier to work on in the event I'm feeling particularly burnt out for a little while -- I don't plan on acting on my ideas for Thirty-Seven Pictures of a Cat for a long time, but it's honestly kind of nice to grow so fond of an idea that isn't TCotC-related.
