Chiaroscuro and that Canned Snake Prank, 1 April 2022
You know what's a great prank? When you offer a mongoose a can of compressed snakes, and when he opens it, it turns out it's full of peanut brittle instead! Ha ha! Great fun for everyone, snakes included.
My thanks to
chiaroscuro for letting me feature him in this scene, which is a trifling notion I've had rattling around my head for months, and which came together when I hit what's surely a brief window of having some handle on how to draw heads for the musteloidea superfamily. (Mustelids, procyonids, mephits, you know, the gang. Red pandas too.) It's about how the head flares out as you approach the neck, and as you approach the snout. Anyway this was a little sketch that kept growing more and more, so I rolled with the energy while it was working.

Oh, goodness, yeah. The mongoose family is off in the Feliformia superfamily, hanging out with the cats and the hyenas. The raccoon family is tucked inside Caniformia, alongside dogs and bears and seals. It'd be hard to get much farther away and stay in Carnivora. Well, the important thing for art purposes is similar enough body shapes, particularly head shapes.
Anyway, quite glad you like and thanks for letting me put this to the public.
