This thing is gorgeous! I found it sitting in goodwill for $60 if you can believe it.
It records CD quality audio in digital format to HI-8 tapes and is able to take 8 inputs and record 8 tracks simultaneously. I will probably try using this to record my next submission :D

The thing is though that for some applications including music recording tape is still a better medium. I plan on trying to use this to record masters so that I have a reliable source for my raw tracks. It also means I will be able to use the term "master tapes" and mean it literally :P
I need to get a clean preamp for it. The only mixer I have right now it the one on my 4 track cassette recorder and it has a lot of his for some reason. I suppose I could play with using my M-audio for it but eh, I really should just bite the bullet and get a fucking mixer/preamp.
